I-65 North of Indy - road condition??

We are headed to the Indy 500 this weekend. The most convenient route for us us to come in I-65 from the North. However, the past couple of years we have taken an alternate route because I-65 has been in such poor condition. Does anyone know if the condition of I-65 to the north of Indy about 100 miles is any better this year?
35 miles from Normal, IL. As close to normal as I'll ever be.

Thanks. I guess we'll take the alternate route again.

The worst thing about 65 north of Indy to Chicago is traffic goes from 90 mph to a stop and back to 90 again over and over and over again. That stretch is very frequently deadly and no I am not exaggerating. I never notice the road condition because I am so focused on traffic.

North of Lafayette can be very windy and at high wind periods truck blow-overs are not unheard of. Back ups and long stoppages are common.

If you have an alternative route do it.

I'd say avoid I-65 if you've got an alternate route. Seems like it's always under construction, and condition doesn't improve--a new section falls apart as soon as they get one spot fixed. I know there are road closures for construction between Lafayette and Indianapolis. I'd expect heavy backups for 500 weekend. If you can't find a decent alternate route try traveling at night or very early morning. Traffic on this section tends to be very heavy.
