Immigration crack down

I have been getting a lot of reports of people being stopped on the street and being asked for thir passport, FMM or resident card. A few cases of people being held for up to 3 days if they dont have it woith them. I have also heard pรจople are being denied a 180 day FMM unless they cna show reservations for that period) Not any RVยดs yet just fly ins). The US State department has issued a notice about the first problem.

I am wondering if this may have something to do with all the refugees trying to enter the US, and US pressure on Mexico.

There is corruption everywhere bit it is a way of life. Want to build something without a permit. Just pay the inspector. Want to have a second water supply without going through the meter. Just pay the engineer at the water department. If you are on IMSS and want a real specialist to do your operation. Just pay the specialist a small fee. As one Mexican told me: In Mexico anything is possible.

With enough money you can obtain any official document in Mexico, even the real ones with out having to officially apply for them, well that is Mexico for you they will forge anything you want as long as you can pay for it.

....yes; I know the old IFE (previous to July 2014). According to numerous Mexican sources (sited below) fraudulent IFE and the replacement Instituto Nacional Electoral cards are wide-spread in Mexico. A fake card can be purchased in 50 to 90 minutes in certain parts of Mexico for from $90 to $200 USD. This includes "paid witnesses" fees. Allowing the card holder to cash checks up to a certain maximum. Also, fake birth certificates are extremely easy to obtain. (site: the Mexican journal, Visiรณn Criminolรณgica-criminalรญstica; and Registro Civil; and Comisiรณn Nacional para la Protecciรณn y Defensa de los Usuarios y Servicios Financieros; and Fiscalรญa Especializada para la Atenciรณn de Delitos Electorales; and the IRB (Canada: Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada).

I thought that the INE cards would be hardened far more in recent years?

The official Mexican identification card is the INE (Instituto Nacional Electoral) it used to be the IFE (Instituto Federal Electoral), it is as big as a credit card and every where you interact with a government department they ask for it, this document is also used for voting, it is basically a voter registration card, after you vote tne card is punched for the given election, after the number of elections or the card has expiered you go get a new one.

Wow. Tim's in Mexico. With Tim's and NHL hockey on TV no need to go back to Canada in the spring.

I had to look up Tim Horton. We had never heard of it, of course, we are not Canadian.

....the CONACYT keeps statistical data on "undocumented foreigners" and "deported American" (and, Canadian) citizens (Mexico's National Council of Science and Technology). Thousands of American citizens have been deported from Mexico, at least since 2015. So, the trail of deportations has been over quite a few years, and not just commencing in 2021.

What MAY be fueling all the "chatter" presently happening, is that Mexico never warned illegal tourists in Mexico in advance of the country-wide program to step up the "dragnet" activity (unlike Vietnam and Thailand had done recently, to catch illegal tourists in those countries). However, Mexican officials are giving some genre of 7 days for illegals to get their affairs straightened out before deportation.

There are a number of youtubers with videos about Mexico. Most are just putting up videos ro enhance their click bait. The guy in that video makes a lot of unverified claims. Sensationism. One guy fro PV does a great job of explaining immigration items and more. Is the guy in the video from Canada? I did not know there was a Timmies in Mexico?

Easier if the OP just gives some more info so he isn't misquoted rather than guess what was meant.
I know this isn't a "Its dangerous to travel to mexico, I wouldn't go " comment cause he's been to mexico before, although not for a couple of years possibly.

Most Mexicans use the IFE card, the voter registration card.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

....this, from the article in Mexico News Daily:

Some companies specified that they would also require an official form of identification from Mexican customers.

I wonder what this "form of identification" is. Some kind of forge/fake-proof holograph, plastified/laminated ?

That makes more sense than anything else I can think of.

I think the ID requirement started when the first caravans of immigrants entered at the southern border and started their travels north.
