Suggestion on route. North from Decatur to Rt. 30 in Ft. Wayne. West on 30 to Indiana 49. This is just East of Valparaiso. Indiana. North to I 80, West to 294. You will miss all of the HEAVY Traffic by the Lakes Mall area. I 65 is OK, but 30 in between 49 and I 65 is a DISASTER!!!

Have a great trip. I love Door County and would like to get back there some day. I have also always wanted to see the submarine U.S.S. Cobia at Manitowoc. Might be an interesting stop for you too.

If you're going to be in Oshkosh, you have to visit the EAA museum.

Be forewarned:
The EAA "Airventure" is July 29th through Aug 4th and US-41 is like a parking lot.

Some people do like to go around Chicago on 294. I accidently exited off 90 in a construction area once and was lost for a few scary minutes in South Chicago. Otherwise the natural route to Sturgeon Bay is 94 to 43 to 57, unless you want to make a detour for some reason. (I'm a Wisconsin native, Colorado transplant.) Sturgeon Bay is a great area, what are you going to do up there?

Be careful here with highway names/numbers.

There are state highways (e.g. IL-173),
US federal highways (e.g. US-41)
and Interstate highways (e.g. I-65).
--------
From Chicago to Sturgeon Bay, take I-90/94 through Chicago to I-94 to US-41 to I-43 (in Milwaukee) to destination.
