Need help with route from MA to Rodanthe NC

We are new at RV camping and would like to go from MA to Rodathe NC the end of Sept this year. I have heard that there are roads, bridges and tunnels that we can not take the camper on or thru. We have a 24 foot Coachman Freedom Express travel trailer. I'm hoping that someone out there will have a route that they have followed before so we can get there without getting into too much trouble.

Where in MA are you leaving from? Eastern or Western?

Take the Tappan Zee instead of George Washington Bridge....Take 13 south across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel instead of going thru Baltimore and DC!!
