As said it is a good route - used it many times! BUT - just north of Sandpoint take route 200 eastward around the gorguos lake and then follows the Clark Fork River to eventually join 93 several miles north of Missoula. A pretty and relaxing route that we have also taken many times. If you need a good campground try Sam Owen CG (USFS) just east of Hope!

I agree - better drive than US 2 for the view and you end up on US 93 that you take North to GNP.

Oh My this looks like it may be a awesome trip (someday) but for now we will have to pass on the side trip (route 200) our goal is New Hampshire and beyond.....

Thanks everyone else we will have to see how it goes whether we take 95 and go up to 2 or take 90 to 93 and up to GNP

Lee, Its a good highway and part 4-lane to Sandpoint. from there the road is two lane but scenic. Just don't be in a hurry and plan on some 45 MPH stretches.

Hwy 90 east and then north on Hwy 93 north is an easer drive but nearly as scenic.

agreed. and a much more scenic drive than taking the interstate to either st. regis or missoula mt and going north.

and lots of FS campgrounds along the way once you head east from sandpoint.

It's a great route, make sure that you stop at Kootenai Falls for a great short hike to very impressive waterfalls.

Do not let your GPS take you over Forest Service Road (some unpaved) to make the distance shorter.

At times it seems that the route does more N/S than E/W.
