I would suggest we know what part of Ohio but none of it would send you to the Norfolk area--PA pike to Breezewood, 70 to Hagerstown then 81 to 66 to 17 to 95 to US 64 at Rockymount….Puts you right on the outer banks and you missed all the traffic drama of the cities. In Southern Ohio, I 64 to Richmond 95 S to Rockymount US64 E to the outer banks---still missed all the cities.

There are 2 64s on the way to the Outer Banks. For those not familiar with the area I64 is in VA E from I81 towards Chesapeake and loops.
US 64 runs the entire length w to E of NC and ends at Nags Head. It depends where you are coming from which one to use.

We took 64 from Williamston east and had no issues, mostly 2 lane but no biggie. We were towing our 40' toyhauler. Came across Roanoke Island.

Best route once you get down to Newport News/Hampton Va is this.
664/168/158
Skip the first three lines on the directions, you will be on 64 merging onto 664.
No tolls and you avoid Norfolk and Va bch traffic.
