Churches book indicates two overnight spots to stay in Saltillo. La Fuente Hotel is one of them. Has anyone stayed here recently and is it an easy access from Mex 57?? Looking for a quick overnight spot along this stretch in March when we exit Mexico.

Thanks briansue. This time last year we were here at Hotel San Ramon together. Cooler this year and fewer RVs but still good to be in SMA. - Bonnie and Jim

Sorry - at Las Palmas you will want to pull up out front and go in to check in at the office before entering the grounds. There is a special RV gate around the side they will come out to open to let RVs in. Cars can go in/out the main entrance but it is too low for some RVs.

Many places in Mexico have arches or portals at the entrances, I carry a measuring tape marked with the height of my RV and before even attempting to go in to a new place with an overhead restriction, I get out and measure specially if the entrance is sloped or at an angle to the road.

Some residential streets have low tree branches or electric cables, it is always good to look up now and then to avoid obstacles when going forward or backing in to a spot.

We'll be driving north from San Miguel de Allende soon, so the info re Saltillo is helpful to us also. What about places to stay in Matehuala? San Luis Potosi? We're probably looking at two stops between here and Laredo, so trying to decide which two. No need to quote distances and encourage us to stop only once -- we like to take our time. 🙂 Any interesting sites right along the route? Thanks.

Thanks to those who responded. I am actually coming up Rte 54 from Zac and taking a cutover to 57 just south of Saltillo. I thought Hotel Fuente might be easier to get to than the other one.

There is a Pemex full service area in the middle of the highway about 65 miles north of Matehuala and 90 miles south of Saltillo where we have stayed a couple of times . . . 24.49511° -100.29606° . . . Which still puts you about 285 miles from Columbia. Last year there was a Quebec caravan of about 20 rigs parked there. Lots of trucks overnight there. Easy in and out - but could be further from the border than you might want to be.

I agree with Canadian Rainbirds, there's no need to stop in Saltillo if you leave Matehuela in the morning. You can get to Columbia Bridge in the afternoon. Thats what we'll be doing when we leave La Penita March 1st.

We didn't come down this season but stayed at las Fuentes the two previous years. Here is a link to our 2012 blog which has pretty good directions FROM THE NORTH. (Scroll down to near the bottom of the entry For a little entertainment read the section about the fun we had in Queretaro!)

You'll have to work out the north bound yourself! Northbound on the 57 from Matehuala you want to head towards Saltillo at near Arteaga. IF you have a GPS with Mexico maps you should be OK. The hotel is on the lateral just before the periferico, on the SOUTH BOUND side (Actually East bound at this point) so you will have to get on the lateral and do a retorno. We know this because we got on the lateral too late and had to go back!

It's a two lane lateral and you need to park right in front of the hotel and walk in to get someone to open the gate to the field.

There may be one two "15 Amp" outlets by a lamp post but we have good solar and gen so just found a reasonably level spot in the middle of the field.

Hear is a another link, this one to the 2013 entry. It has a link to the hotel's website.

We figured that from Larado to Matehuela could be done in one day bypassing Saltillo completely on the 57D directly from the 40D and bypass around Monterrey. I see no reason that going north would take any longer since we spend about an hour at checkpoints southbound.
