Pulling an RV into Canada, crossing at Niagara Falls

Hi folks,

We’re coming from the states and planning to camp just inside Canada near Niagara Falls. We’ve got the required ID’s for the family, not worried about that part.
I don’t know what’s involved in pulling the RV in, are there any restrictions or tips I should prepare for?
Do they search the vehicle in either direction?
I saw a mention of food; naturally we travel with food in the fridge, is that an issue?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's a******shoot. Sometimes, you politely answer all of their questions, and you are on your way. Another time we had our unit searched, they were looking for? Fresh fruit of any kind is also a no no.
Know where you are planning to go, and for how long.
Look up older posts on food items, and your US passport is a must for ALL. Pets require special handling. We also took out truck title, just in case. Check your Insurance carrier for possible added coverage in Canada. Happay Trails

You won't have any trouble bringing food into Canada - Canadian customs are mostly interested in liquor, tobacco and firearms (leave your guns at home).

Returning to the US is when you need to be careful with food. Basically as long as any fruits and vegetables are labled or packaged as product of Canada or USA there is not a problem. The exceptions are green onions, tomatoes and peppers and no citrus fruit even if it did originate in Florida. Sacks of rice from Asian countries is also forbidden but Minute Rice, Uncle Bens etc. is not a problem. Lamb, goat and mutton is not admissible (this includes pet food).
Pet food should be in original container and preferably made in US.

Take your sunglasses off and turn off the radio when being inspected. Answer all questions directly and do not offer more information that asked.

We live near the border and cross frequently so do have experience. Also check the sticky at the top of the forum for links to all the information.
