Rocky Point or San Felipe?

I am planning a trip from Quartzside after the "Big Tent Show" in
January 2015 aprox the 20th. Want to stay 7-10 days. Two rigs
solo grandma's & 2 dogs. 35' Class A and 24' Class C. we both have
tow cars.

Just want to relax, go into town, eat some good local food, etc.

Which would you go to & why?
What type of info/paperwork do I need besides a Passport? Both vehicles are paid for & only in one name?
How do you get mexican insurance? cost?
What is the border crossing procedures?
About how much are the fees to enter mexico?

What RV park(s) would you stay in?
Single women.. we would like safety..

As a first trip you will enjoy either. San Felipe is a little bit more expensive with more camping choices. Rocky Point is a short drive in Mexico.

Maybe you have not seen better. I found both those large RV parks in PP to be nothing much more than big parking lots. Not my cup of teas, but at least its better than Arizona.

I live in Penasco fulltime now and prefer it over San Felipe which is too quiet for me. Lots of restaurants and activities here in Penasco and two active singles clubs. There are three large RV parks here, all on the beach. Each has there own pros and cons. I live at Playa de Oro. Playa Bonita and the Reef are also nice. Puerto Penasco has an authentically Mexican area right? Can get food not submerged in slopping cheese...

This is an experience from several years ago....I found San Felipe to be gringolandia but maybe that's a good point...but not for me. Puerto Penasco has it's own Mexicoland but I did venture off the gringo trail and found good, authentic food.

It's all in what a person is looking for...

I prefer San Felipe as well, not that I am fond of either. Rocky point is dusty and the parks there are pretty uninteresting. You might want to consider San Carlos (Totonaka RV), That is as far south as you can go without vehicle permits. All you need to do is get the 180 day visa. Get your Mexican insurance on line or at the border.

If it comes down to San Felipe or rocky point, pick San Felipe.

Single women, you should be just fine in any of those 3 locations, you may want to look at a caravan if you want to venture further down on your own later. I have seen single women traveling all over Mexico by themselves, but you have to have a different comfort level,

I live in Rocky Point and I visit San Felipe a few times a year. They are both great and they are very different.

Rocky Point is very grown up with lot's of activities for adventurous folks. The RV parks are nice and some are right on the beach like San Felipe. We have a lot of restaurants, 3 golf courses and other amenities. San Felipe is a bit smaller and probably quieter and that is a good thing for a lot of people. I think they should both be visited at some point for a personal comparo.

My trip to San Felipe last year was good, I will be going back when schedules allow. I crossed at Mexicali, shopped at Costco and an easy drive. You might check the Baja Nomads Forum, there is lots of info about San Felipe's RV Parks, food, shopping, etc. JH
