route around NYC

You all got me around Boston. Now looking for route from Boston to Washington DC. Just need idea about getting past NYC.

There are no ring roads around NYC like Boston. I lived in the area for 10 years and drove all over the north east constantly. I would just go south on 95. Whatever you do avoid rush hour. I cannot say that strongly enough. The only really bad part is the Cross Bronx Expressway. Don't break down there. LOL. Once you get over across the George Washington Bridge it is an easy road. Lots of tolls. And when I say Cross Bronx is bad I am talking about traffic.
