Hello all. Ready to head to Caldwell, Idaho. We will travel from Brookings,Or. to Blue River,Or for one night. Then head to Bend,Or and onto Caldwell by Hwy 20. Is that best route and how is HWY 20? Thank you in advance.

the rv park the city owns at the fair grounds in John Day is a real nice park.

After thinking, look to take Hwy 26. May stay in John Day. Spent many a summers in Fossil and know that ugly terrain.

Thank you all for your input. Will probably use Hwy 20 through Burns.

Highway 20 is a pretty easy drive, watch for the open range areas. Once you hit Juntura the highway starts getting some curves, but nothing crazy. It will straighten out before Harper, but the last leg of those curves are probably the most intense of the drive - just watch your speed. The route takes you up to Ontario, I do suggest taking I84 South to Caldwell.

Do keep an eye on TripCheck.com before you head out in case there are any fires en-route.

You've got that right. Not much to see along that route

That is the way I'd go. Been years since I was on 20 east of Bend, but was decent road then.

Hwy 20 is fine. It's almost but ugly out in eastern OR on that hwy. When we're heading east we prefer hwy 26. It's a gorgeous drive but an hour longer though.
