Soft Side Truck Campers in Alaska

We are doing preliminary planning for 3rd trip to Alaska summer 2019. Seriously considering buying a Northstar Soft side truck camper and leaving our travel trailer at home.

Should we be concerned about bears? We have always been in hardsided units when in bear country before.

You'll be fine with pop-up camper, like other Alaskans will tell you, there are many tents used year round up here.

Been to AK 4 times now & have yet to see a bear in a CG. The CGs of choice for us have always been the more remote state recreation areas & provincial parks. We only carry bear deterrent in the form of a very loud noise maker however even that is questionable as we seldom remember to carry it.

You should be concerned about bears in all Western states and proveniences...that’s where I camp...not just Alaska. If my back was better I’d be in a tent half the time. Lock up your food and other smellables away from where you sleep. You’ll be fine.

Yes, you should be concerned about bears, but not a big deal. Most of us up here tent camp, especially during hunting season. Make sure you have a rifle or shotgun you feel comfortable with to stop a bear. JMHO
