Texarkana to San Antonio

We are in Mount Vernon IL right now. I think we will make it to Texarkana tomorrow night. Our next destination is San Antonio.
My question concerns getting to San Antonio. The fastest route looks like I30 to Dallas and coming out of Dallas on I35E.
Google Maps also shows an option of going 19 to Athens, 7 around Athens and then 31 to just North of Waco. This shows as 15 mins longer, but you miss Dallas. javascript:;

We are just under 13 ft tall. Any thoughts about these routes ?
Thanks in advance for any insight.

As noted - Dallas isn't a problem at all, Austin is.

Note to Flyfishing48: You won't go wrong with any of these routes. They are all good suggestions, and much in agreement.

Note to Duster: Wave when you come through Ore City!:)

Looks like we have covered some of the same territory beyond Upshur County. :B

Look into I-30 Texarkana to Mt. Pleasant, 271 to Tyler, 155 to Palestine, 79 to Rockdale, 77 to Schulenburg, I-10 to San Antonio. Use the Loops/Bypass in Mt. Pleasant, Tyler and Palestine. You will be on mostly US numbered Highways with 4-lanes, less congestion, fewest red lights and the most constant average speed on this route. It keeps you out of the Austin/I-35 mess and the entire I-35 construction disaster. It might not be the shortest route, but it will be the less frustrating and safest. I've been these routes for 40 years and have watched the progress for the better.
If you draw a straight line Texarkana to SA, you'll see this route is driving towards SA until the US77, Rockdale to Schulenburg jog...475mi and 10hrs at a leisure pace. Wave when you go thru Gilmer!!

Also, be advised they are doing a lot of road construction on I35 (north and south bound) from Hillsboro to about Temple. Lanes have been narrowed and there is no shoulder for long distances. Can be a bit of white knuckle driving.

ditto to avoiding Austin... over to Burnet on 29 and down 281 to San Antonio is good. We've been up through Palestine and Corsicana with our MH...no problems.

Here is a route for you to consider. Certainly the one I would take:

AT Texarkana take US 59 (sign would say "Houston")
At Linden, TX take TX 155 all the way to Tyler
Take Loop 323 around West side of Tyler
Stay on TX 155 to Palestine (loop around West side of Palestine)
Take US 79 in Palestine

You could go all the way down to Round Rock north of Houston on US 79
or you could cut over to I-35 on US 84 just west of Palestine. I always stay on US 79, but you do have a choice. Otherwise you pick up I-35 at Round Rock.

I've made this route many times.

Now, I'm going to express a purely personal observation: for some reason I've always found Austin to be one of the worst cities to tow through. I'd far rather go through Houston or around Dallas on I-20 than through Austin. So I'd probably skirt on over to Burnet on TX 29 and then take US 281 on into San Antonio, but this is just my personal choice and I would enjoy the drive much more.

If you have any question about any part of this route, I'll be happy to respond.

Let me add: the TX 19 would also be fine. You'd have no trouble with that one. Good loop around Athens and I just came over TX 31 from Corcicana to Athens (actually Tyler) last week.
