Trip to San Diego via I40 thru Albuquerque

Thank you for that information. I hadn't thought about that pass being closed. We have driven when it was very windy and also another time with very dense fog. Oddly enough everybody was driving sensibly at a consistent speed and with lights on. Without GPS, I wouldn't have had a clue where I was since you couldn't see the overhead signs until right underneath them.

We have stopped at Meteor Crater during winter before and stayed at the RV park there. There was some snow on the ground which makes it look even better.

In the middle November, there will be less chance of storms closing the roads, but not impossible. At Christmas time I know even I10 has been closed between El Paso and Deming a couple of times.

Just check the weather. Cajon Pass between Victorville and San Bernardino has closed as early as November before. Usually only for a couple of hours, but the traffic volume makes for a real mess. There's a good (not great) RV park called Desert Willow at the Hesperia off ramp were you to get caught. More than snow I watch for wind advisories.

X2 on I10 and I8. Much better road. I40 from Flagstaff to Kingman Arizona is some of the worst highway I have ever traveled.

I have traveled the southern route also but was wanting to stop by the Meteor crater on the trip out never been able to stop in the past.

The southern route outlined above gets you better road. I-40 gets pretty beat up between the weather and the trucks. Either way mid Novemeber should be no problem. :C

It depends on when you are asking about. This time of year the snow doesn't usually stick on the freeways and main roads.

We travel every year to LA and San Diego at Christmas time. And no problems the last 6 years, but there has been some snow on these trips. But, I40 can be closed for a period of time when it snows. You have to get past Flagstaff, AZ to get out of the chances of snow.

From Albuquerque, you can also go down I25 to NM 26 to Deming to I10 and I8 and avoid snow if it is snowing west of Albuquerque. We usually come back from San Diego this way.

Amarillo can also be bad and I don't think have have snow removal equipment.
