US-54 and I-35 Conditions

We will be returning to MI in a week and am thinking of taking US-54 out of Tucumcari NE to I-35 in Wichita. What are the road conditions like? We did not have good road down taking I-55 to the Gulf and then I-10 across Lousiana. Pulling a 34'TT and usually don't travel faster than 62 so the back/main roads are not a problem.

FWIW....I travel that road a lot !! but this is the way I go now because of...less traffic and passing.... 54 out of Tucumcari, NM to Minneola, KS 283 north to Dodge City 56 to Great Bend just east of GB pick up 156 east to I 70 East at Ellsworth, KS (good roads and most times a nice ride ) ...I 70 east to KC, KS I 670 TO I 35 or back to I 70. I would take I 670 back to I 70 east to St. Louis, Mo then pick up I 55 North or I 70 to Indy and then I 69. I am in Los Lunas, NM right now and that's the route I will be taking to NY when I leave here.

Last time we came that way, 54 through the panhandle of OK was in need of repair but the rest of it wasn't bad. But that has been 6 years ago so hopefully it has been overlayed by now. There is a lot of truck traffic on 54 but there are also passing lanes along the way so it generally is not a problem.

We took US 54 & US 50 from T. to Emporia (last Jan). Very flat (mostly). Don't recall any rough roads. (We traveling without a camper at the time.)
