I have an "X" on this road from some previous experience (?) which is my way of telling myself to NOT try and tow down this stretch. However, I can't remember what the deal was. Has anyone gone down this road lately? Is it OK to tow?

I do not have any recent first hand knowledge regarding these roads. Several years ago, I did drive MT 49 from East Glacier north to Kiowa. That sounds like the road you're describing. I think I read some posts this summer about the poor condition of US 89 and some folks preferred to drive north out of Browning on MT 464 to Starr School Rd, then west to US 89. As I remember, they felt this was a better road. However, I do not have any personal knowledge about it.

If you are in Browning and want to go to St Mary the only other way is around 2 sides of a roughly equilateral triangle. Twice as far in other words. We were down that Rd but it was a couple of years ago and I didn't notice anything terrible about it. Maybe you expect a lot more from remote country highways than I do.

Make the "X" bold and in red!

Went that route last July with our 36-foot 5th wheel. Never again!

It was a winding, narrow, shoulder-less road which had some potholed stretches.

It was a very slow drive, getting up to 35 only occasionally.
