Be sure to fuel up before you cross the border into Canada. Gas and diesel are both much cheaper in the US than Canada.

While in Montreal, I would strongly suggest seeing Notre-Dame Bascilica. It literally took my breath away.
The old section of Montreal, known as Old Montreal, has cobblestone streets and centuries-old buildings. It reminds me of Europe with its architecture and street cafes.
If you are into architecture, you will be blown away.
The traffic is fast paced, congested and a little crazy, but it is an awesome city!
I much prefer the 495 - 95 - 695 - 83 -81 - 401 (Ontario) to 20 (Quebec) - or , depending on where you live 495 - 270 - 15 - 81 - 401 - 20. No tolls except the bridge to Canada at the end of I-81.
I live 60 miles from Montreal in northern NY state. You will hate the NY City and Philadelphia traffic.

Ok, My Son went to Scouts at the Church right there, and the Pop-up I just got came from a friend on Timberneck. We were just down the road on Mercy ln. Small world.
We built a house off of Providance in 2008, I retired in 2010, and the then new job with the +2.5 hour comute in Charlottesvile got old fast so we put our place there on the market and moved. (it finally sold in Dec) I loved the house and the people in Gloucester, but I couldn't handle the comute.
If I go to DC I ride the subway, I park at VanDorn st and take the blue line.
Thank you for the information. Yes, I moved to Gloucester in 1978 and started working in DC in 2007. I graduated from Gloucester High School in 1980. You?
I would take 81. IMO the traffic is a bit lighter, that is not saying much, DC traffic is ALWAYS a mess. Honestly I try to avoid driving near DC at all costs.
I see in your profile your are from Hayes, we moved from there a couple of years ago.
