Wanted to know if anyone from here has stayed at Indian Flats out side on the west of Yosemite Park? I read the reviews and kinda bummed but wanted to hear anyone else's view from here as I value your views more than complete strangers as you are almost like family.

Sounds like a plan. I'd be interested to hear if anything has changed in five years.

If you are approaching Indian Flat from the west in Hwy. 140 it is real easy to miss the entrance to the CG.

Also further west on Rt. 140 there was a temporary bridge across the river for which there was a length restriction for vehicle traffic - 45 feet. I am thinking that was for non-articulated vehicles (we were 48.5' nose to tail) since we negotiated the turns with no problems. The locals told us later that bridge had been in place for years after the original one was washed out in a flood. The state of California didn't have the money to build a permanent bridge at the time - and I don't think their fiscal situation has improved all that much.

Good luck, enjoy & safe travels.

Doug, no problem only staying there 2 nights and plan to be in the park most of the time, just to have breakfast and dinner there and sleep. Think I have a site with sewer so taking a shower in the trailer is not a problem, just I need a toilette as I don't fit the one in the RV for sitting, oh well I will make due. Thanks for the info

Yes. Now in all fairness it was back in 2009.

We chose it because of its proximity to Yosemite and it was on the way with respect to the route I had planned for our trip that summer. That's about the end of the good news.

Our "site" was very small and the neighboring motorhome was very, very, very close. Manuevering into the site was a challenge; it was a back-in site (which normally does not bother me - except in this case.......) where I had to back up a grade and around a dogleg at the same time. Road surface was loose gravel so I had to engage 4WD to finish the job. As if that were not enough, the back of site had a low retaining wall so there was no margin for error. Very little vegetation. It was dry and very dusty at the time of our visit. A good rain would take care of the dust but you'd just be trading that for mud.

Many of the units seemed to be long -term campers (cue sound track from "Deliverance" here). Bath/restroom facilities were not clean. If I recall correctly the "store" had very little in the way of supplies. If for some reason you do choose to stay at Indian Flats be advised there is only one gas station in El Portal and he knows it. Price was a full dollar a gallon more than anywhere else on the planet.

Would not stay there again. Sorry to rain on your parade........
