Any overnight parking by Show Low, AZ?

We are heading through Show Low and it looks like the Walmart there does not allow overnight parking. Does anyone know of a place to park and sleep so we can head out the next morning?

Looks like Jischuma got his answer, but for others passing through, the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest surrounds Show Low and Heber-Overgaard. The 36 mile stretch of Highway 260 between those two towns has several forest roads that lead to areas where you can boondock.

Here's me recently enjoying one.

I called and they said I could stay there. That is nice, it will allow more time in the mountains. We can save half a day of driving now.

we've stayed at Fool hollow state park several times along with canyon park located at Forest lakes a little further down the road. Check RV Park reviews for more locations.

Lowes and Home Depot are next door & across the hwy from WalMart. That WalMart is extremely crowded, especially on weekends.

I've stayed multiple times at the Walmart in Show Low on White Mountain Road. I went inside, made a purchase, and asked the manager if she'd mind my parking over night. I've never been turned away.

Of course, you could be turned away from the Walmart for a number of reasons. Sometimes law enforcement or management may see things differently from time to time. If you are turned away, I'd recommend you head a little farther east to the Hondah Casino RV Park. It's only $29.86 per night plus tax. It's a nice RV park with all the amenities. You can get reservations by calling 800-way-up-hi.

Lastly, you are allowed to camp in the national forest free of charge, but I'm not real familiar with places to camp right in that area. You need to be sure you're actually on national forest land that is not posted. You also need to be sure you aren't on reservation land or private property. If so, you might be asked to move by local or tribal police at 3am.

From a post earlier this year:

"You could also take 87 to Payson and take 260 over toward Show Low. There are many beautiful national forest campground right along the highway."

We overnighted at the SL Walmart just a few months ago. No problem. You should give them a call to be sure. It was one of the nicer ones we've stayed at.

There was a homeless woman living with her animals in a car, though. She might have caused them to change their policy.
