Army Corps Of Engineers Parks Are Closing?

I just checked into an Army Corps Of Engineers park in Alabama and the lady at the desk told me they got orders today that the system is shutting down. She said I can stay tonight, but everyone must leave tomorrow. I'm searching for news on this. Does anyone have a link? It figures. Just as soon as I join the party, they shut it down. Now where do all the full-timers go? Walmart? Maybe a million of us can camp out at the Pentagon.

Texas COE is closing.

FORT WORTH, Texas – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fort Worth District announce campground reservation cancellations in response to the coronavirus.

The cancellations will not affect those campers already at the campgrounds.

USACE campgrounds that are currently open will honor active reservations through Sunday, March 22. Individuals with reservations on or before March 22 will be able to camp for the entirety of their reservation. No new reservations will be accepted after March 22.
No new campers will be accepted at first-come, first-serve campsites effective Thursday, March 19.

Campground reservations scheduled between March 23 and May 15 will be cancelled. Refunds will be provided through Recreation One-Stop (1-877-444-6777 or recreation.gov). Reservations after May 15 will be reevaluated at a future date.

These measures are in addition to operational changes Fort Worth District announced earlier this week.

The COE Fort Worth District includes all COE campgrounds in Texas except those on Lake Texoma and Pat Mayse Lake just north of Paris, TX. (Tulsa District). A few campgrounds on Lake Texoma now open will remain open for existing reservations. Those scheduled to open in April and on May 1, will not until some time in May. Pat Mayse Lake will remain open, expect sites closed due to flooding/ damage.

The Galveston District along the Texas Gulf Coast has no campgrounds.

😞

Another one bites the dust. I just arrived at Clear Springs Park near Texarkana and they have signs up saying their campground is closing March 22. This is like a bad movie where the world comes to an end, except the sky is not falling. People die. New ones take their place. This too will pass. They should at least let the fearless go camping and everybody else can crawl under their beds.

The Nashville District Corps of Engineers posted today that they will immediately begin an orderly shutdown of those campgrounds that have already opened for the 2020 season and keep the others closed for the time being. One way to check on a particular Corps campground is to start from the Corps locations map on their headquarters website, click on the District you're interested, and either check the news stories or go to their recreation page and click on the COVID-19 banner at the top of the page. Glad to hear they're letting the volunteers stay.

I have reservations at a COE park near Texarkana, TX tonight. I just called to ask if the park is open. I told her I have reservations for tonight. There was a big pause. She said registered campers are allowed in, but no visitors. ****. That means I have to cancel the orgy our club had scheduled for tonight. That's just a joke. The phone call part is true.

I am a current camp host at the COE Campground in my signature. We are closed indefinitely per our sign posted at the entry gate. Fortunately the hosts here are allowed to stay here during the shutdown and will be here for immediate opening when this pandemic is over.

Everything in California is closing fast. The reservoirs were taking reservations a week ago. Now their websites are completely offline.

I've received two refund notices this morning in my e-mail for Recreation.gov.

One for a COE park on Lake Texoma, Tulsa District, Burns Run West, in mid-April - closed for "Public Safety Concerns" The campground us unavailable until May 11. Burns Run East is taking reservations during that time period. The park normally opens on Apr 1.

Buncombe Creek, another COE park on Lake Texoma normally opening on Apr 1 is delaying opening until May 11.

Juniper Point, a COE Lake Texoma park which normally opens on May 1 is delaying opening until May 11.

Another COE park - Clear Lake on Lake Lavon, Fort Worth District, cancelled and refunded my reservation with no explaination. Checking the Recreation.gov site, Clear Lake appears to not be opening on Apr 1 as is normal. Opening delayed to May 2.

The other two COE campgrounds on Lake Lavon, East Fork and Lavonia, are taking reservations from today into May. No closures indicated.

No reason given 100% refund in both cases.

Any updates on Alabama? I’m hitting the road in a couple of days for White Oak (creek) in Eufaula.
It’s showing available online. I noticed that Gunter hill is unavailable until May 1st.

I left Gunter Hill this morning. They are the park that started this thread. They told me they were closing down and I was the last new reservation. May 1st may be the plan, I don't know.

I was trying to book on Recreation.gov today and had problems with my computer. I sent them an e-mail asking how to make their system work for Watsadler on .rtwell on the SC/Georgia line. Got a note back from a very nice lady saying

" Please be aware that due to the COVID-19 (corona virus) Watsadler is temporarily closed due to public safety concerns"

Well if they have to close it, and they don't, then 10 days is a sensible length of time. Unlike the 60 days FL state parks are closing which is just moronic.
