Bent Pipe near the fire pit

We have seen a number of camps with the bent pipe about six feet high near the fire pits. It escapes us what it's primary purpose might be for, and tell us what you use it for please...?

They have flying raccoons is SC, those hooks are of no use for trash bags there.

or hang little children who trespass through the site, or hang people who fail to pick up after their dogs.

The hook has many uses.

I have also heard lantern hangers and also used for trash.
I once heard it was for any unruly children to be hung up by their belt loops

The lantern-holders are also in National parks.

They are there for a safer place to have a lantern turned on. A strong wind, human, or animal, can knock over a lantern and start a fire.

Can also be used to hang food items or garbage bags up to keep creatures out of them That is a good idea, but with critters I have seen, wouldn't even slow them down.

I have found some fire grates have a hinged area where you can have the fire grate in a vertical position but it sounds like you have your answer now...

Before electric was added to the camp ground they all had a gas lamp hanger usually close to the picnic table to provide light for the camp ground spot.

Some of those gas lights lights really put off some great light and would burn all night with one fill up with white gas....

Back in those days all you needed to bring with you was a bag full of D-CELLS and a couple cans of white gas for the lantern, cook stove and heater. Now we bring the whole household setup with us...

After I posted my response, I went back and looked at your pics. Yes, that is a lantern holder and has a small hook at the end that you hang the metal handle over.

Virginia State Parks have them in most of their campgrounds. If it is a pipe about 3 1/2" in diameter, bent about 6' high and extends another 1 1/2' and has a small hook at the end......that is a lantern hanger.

I will try to find a pic of one.

Is this what you are talking about?
