bogue chitto vs tickfaw sp, la

We plan to be passing through the area and are trying to decide whether stay at Bogue Chitto SP or Tickfaw SP for a night or two before heading to Lake Fausse Point SP. Been to Palmetto Island SP a couple of years age and thoroughly loved it and are looking for a like experience. 22'mh needing only 30 amp service with level pads and possibly a nice shower house.
Close eateries are always a plus.

First weekend in March at Sam Houston Jones may be iffy - Mardi Gras weekend. Other wise weekends at LA State Parks at that time of the year is weather dependent. Week days should be no problem.

Hi, garmp. Like you, we hate to be pinned down to a strict itinerary by reservations made months in advance. What we did was get on-line a few days ahead of our "sorta" planned arrival to see how many sites would be available. If it looked like it was going to be fairly-well booked, then we would make the reservation.

How about Sam Houston Jones SP for the first weekend in March? Should I plan on that being booked?

Unless something has changed Tickfaw is very prone to flooding. It isn’t near a swamp it is a swamp. It’s been a couple years but they cancelled my last reservation because my campsite was under water.

Both are nice state parks with Bogue Chitto being the newest. They are some of the states newest parks with full hookups. Tickfaw is in a swampy area where Bogue Chitto is a larger park in the piney woods. Tickfaw is a little closer to civilization with Ponchatoula and Hammond close by for places to eat. It's also closer to both I-12 and I-55. Myself I like Bogue Chitto better because it's a little further from civilization.
