boondocking near Tombstone

Hi Folks.

I have done a number of searches for boondocking here in southern AZ near Tombstone and keep coming up with nothing.

The Coronado National Forest has camping but some of the more localized parks are for 16' trailers and below. Mine is 30' fiver.

We would prefer no parking lot type of areas.

This would be our first time camping in SE or SW AZ.

Any help would be truly appreciated.

I guess you haven't seen the large 5th wheels I have dispersed camping in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington and Arizona.

Get the MVUM for the Coronado National Forest district you are interested in and it will reveal all the Forest Service roads along which dispersed camping is allowed. Then zooming into the satellite images on iMap or Google Maps can reveal likely spots that will appear to be actively used campsites. Then talk to the district ranger office.

There are also some BLM lands near Tombstone, start with the local BLM office.

How far from Tombstone? I prefer it quiet as can be. Wife mentioned going for a ride to Tombstone however, she loves quiet tooooo!

We've never camped at the Dragoon sites, but we often go to Las Cienegas. It's near Sonoita and the wineries, if you are into wine. Also, the highway between Sonoita and Tombstone passes by the preserved ghost town of Fairbank. Charleston ghost town is about 8 miles SW of Tombstone.

Don't leave the dogs alone outside. Coyotes are snaky and fast.

We keep them in a fenced area underneath the awning where DW and I spend lots of time. Taking them on short hikes on leash helps exercise them little short legs.

What do you consider "close"? There is boondocking in the Dragoon Mtns about 10 miles NE off of Middlemarch Rd. and in the Las Cienegas NCA about 30 miles to the west.
