Campgrounds in Missouri

We are doing a coast to coast trip this year and will be in Missouri in late August early September. We've done a lot of research, but are having a hard time finding campgrounds in/around Kansas City for a couple of days and in St. Louis for a couple of days. We have two 40' rigs and looking for something we can use as a home base while sightseeing.

Anyone have suggestions in that area?

In KC/MO look up the cgs operated by Jackson County. We have stayed at Lake Jacomo cg (NE corner of the metro area) several times. Very nice area and great cg.

X2 for Casino Queen in East St. Louis. We stay there every 4th of July, and it's convenience and level of security keeps us coming back.

We stay at Lakeside Park in St Peters. New, so trees are small. Great walking trail around lake. Quieter and cheaper than Sundermeir. Plenty of restaurants and shopping. As said before easy to get into St Louis.

Basswood RV Resort is north of the airport just off I-29. Easy access to everything. Longview Lake Campground is a county site on the southwest side of KC. They have a few FHU sites. We've stayed at both with our 39' 5er. Longview is the least expensive of the two. Either one would work just fine.

If you're self contained there is Smithville lake which has a limited number of FHU, east of the KCI airport. Also Basswood resort is near there. As mentioned the campground near World's of Fun looks like it would have room for your rigs.

Thanks for all the help....we saw several of the sites mentioned when we did our research, but there were not a lot of reviews and some that were tainted by someone who had an issue (reading between the lines). Out of about 25 stops on our trip, these two cities were the most difficult to get a good reading on a nice campground.

We're staying at Longview Lake CG in Lee's Summit (visiting the DD) in April. I can post a review here. Got an 8 on rvparkreviews.com. We're also doing Shenanigans in Branson and somewhere in Lake of the Ozarks before we get to Lee's Summit.

Hi Don
We visit St Louis fairly frequently and our pick is Sundermeier. It is actually in St Charles just outside of St Louis. Everything you would want to do in St Louis is not far (maybe 15 minutes). You will love the old down town area of St Charles almost walking distance from the park. In KC I have a favorite on the east side Worlds of Fun Village. On the west side in Topeka KS is Deer Creek Valley. KC MO or KC KS are not exactly hot spots for great RV parks. WOF Village is maybe 15 minutes to Royals/Chiefs or Plaza. I know it's a park attached to a theme park but it's a great park even if you are not using the theme park. The park in Topeka is about 60 miles west of KC right off I70. Touring the capitol would be worthwhile. These picks are based on my preference for long level concrete sites and full hook ups. They are all easy to get to and safe, the one in Topeka is gated. Have fun!

The city of St. Peters has a fairly new city owned campground that looks nice.

Babler is also nice, but very popular during the summer.
