Could anyone tell me if they know of a few places I could boondock with my 40' DP towing? I'm heading for the Phoenix area this coming winter from Arkansas. I would like to take a couple of weeks to get there and try out some boondocking. I will be leaving Arkansas in November and heading west on I-10 to Phoenix and then up I-17 to Flagstaff and then I-40E back to Arkansas next May or June. I know that I am very limited with my 40' MH but thought someone out there might know of a few spots on my routes. I have never been boondocking before and would love to give it a try. Thanks everyone

Lot of areas. You just have to becareful driving off the road. Some areas are very hard and no problem. Others not so much. Also watch out for dry wash flooding.

Thanks everyone, I have spent the night in Flying J, Pilot and T/A on several occasions. I don't do walmart parking. I will be wintering in the Phoenix area from Dec thru Mar. I will check with the free camping and boondocking sites too. I normally stay at KOA's on my trips but just want to try out some boondocking to see how I like it. I full time and want to do more traveling but I also want to keep the cost down.

We have seen big rigs boondocking in the Kaibab National Forest on the North Rim, not too far from DeMotte Campground. Great in June -- not in the winter! Maybe scout around with the toad before you take the rig into the boonies, just to make sure you can turn around safely.

And the same is true of the area near the airport at the South Rim -- I am pretty sure that I saw several "big-riggable" spots. (I just made up that term -- it is a little shorter than "big rig friendly.")

Offhand I canโ€™t suggest specific spots for a 40โ€™ RV. But in AZ thereโ€™s a lot of national forest and public land that you can boondock on. Youโ€™d just have to watch for an open area near the pavement that you are able to maneuver onto. And they are there. There are other posters with big rigs that may be able to give you better info on specific spots, too.

Another thought, by late November anyway you can expect winter storms in the higher elevations, e.g., Flagstaff and I-40. Not a problem if youโ€™re taking that route in May or June, otherwise keep your eye on the weather so you donโ€™t get stuck somewhere.

Normal BLM areas are large. Course you always have the truck stops and Walmarts.
Can't give you specifics on your particular route. Plenty of places near Yuma, Quartzite, and Parker, AZ.
Most winter visitors stay in regular RV parks.
