campgrounds in The Florida Keys

We want to go to the keys for Christmas 2018. from all I am reading it is extremely hard to get a state park sight. you have to call at 8am 11 months before and hope for the best. What have been your experiences. What other campgrounds would you recommend in the Marathan area?

We are at Bahia Honda SP, now. Very tough to get reservations, especially on the water! Snowbirds fill up the Winter months...I'm working on next year's reservations,now, but it's like playing the lottery!

This may not help the OP, but is it easier to get a reservation when the kids are in school?

If you don't have a dog with you, check out Big Pine Key Fishing Lodge. It's just across the 7 mile bridge from Marathon. Nice family park-- no dogs due to the key deer that wander thru the park.

You'll never get in any of the four state parks during the holiday season or any other time during the winter unless you are extremely lucky.
Try Jolly Roger which is a good one on Grassy Key, but you'll be lucky to get in there too.
We winter in the Keys in Key Largo Kampground and love it there

We just spent a week in Marathon at Jolly Roger in May - enjoyed the CG - good central location to visit the Keys. We were off season, so it wasn't full - imagine it would be tight when busy. Still a nice spot. Check RV Park Reviews for reviews and other CGs in the area. ST

I stay at the Fiesta Key RV Resort South Florida RV Park yearly. Quiet, Restaurant, TIKI Bar. Nice place look into it. http://www.rvonthego.com/florida/fiesta-key-rv-resort/
