Stay away in August as over a million motorcycles will invade the area. Prices skyrocket everywhere, 100 mile radius.

I recommend Beaver Lake Campground about 4 miles West of Custer. Very nice and reasonable rates.
Exceptionally nice owners.

We stayed a few days there a few years ago. There's nothing really bad about it but nothing really great about it. Our site was not particularly level. But it's an OK CG. We have also stayed at the Rafter J Bar in Hill City and liked that a lot more. The KOA in Hill City is also nicer then the one in Custer and is more centrally located in the Black Hills.
