First visit to Quartzite

Usually do my ramblin' during the warm months, so Quartzite isn't a good choice then. This winter I decided I'd better check it out, before I hang up my steering wheel.

Left from my home on the central CA coast Feb 28 and returned home on Mar 18. Total mileage was about 1100 mi. Stayed at RV parks in Bakersfield, Barstow, Needles, Joshua Tree and Lancaster. Attended a good bluegrass festival in Lake Havasu, AZ before arriving in the Q area. Spent 5 boondocking nights around Q and one outside of Joshua Tree NP. Below are photo collages of each BLM boondocking spot with brief descriptions and GPS coordinates.

Got back home to a "different world" due to the virus mess. ;( Hope I can get a least a couple of months of ramblin' in this summer. TBD.

HI Ralph,
thanks for the pictures and I'm glad that you had a good time even after you got stuck in the sand.
We need to get out! looking at eastern Oregon and do some boondocking with the camper van.

Howdy Ralph - re: stuck in sand - Iโ€™m thinking of buying a set of Maxtrax recovery boards for just such an occasion.

Someone else I told about my episode suggested them. I might be too old and stiff to dig and place them, though. I think I'll just be more careful. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ralph, I guess that your truck isn't a 4X4?

Your stuck photo looks like some help from the front tires might have helped.

P.S. We go to Quartzsite about every January, but we drycamp right in town so that we can ride a shuttle to the Pow Wow. This past January we came down with some type of nasty flu in AZ and had to return to CA driving while sick. Double yuck!

Good deals on Satellite equipment out there. Look up Satellite advantage if you need anything.

We stayed there in early March this year for 2 weeks... our 2nd time there. We stayed on Plamosa Road and I'm amazed at how clean the land is. Lots of room, had breakfast at the Mainstreet Restaurant a few times and pizza at Silly Al's twice. This year had mostly nice weather there. We enjoy it there.

Great photos! Even with recovery gear there wasnโ€™t anything to grab to pull you out. Deadmans never work for me.

I was there once, we didn't camp but I was quite intrigued. Forgot about the time change so missed the market which looked interesting. I am fascinated with the desert.

About once a month we spend a night in Quartzsite on the way to Tucson/Vail AZ.-usually stay at Holiday Palms-in a full hook-up site to drain/fill tanks and than on to Vail to our daughter and hubby's driveway. We have always liked Quartzsite.

Oops! Thanks for the correction. I'll have to remember that in the future (if I can). ๐Ÿ™‚
