Florida Rt. 98

We are going to be heading east soon to Tampa from Las Vegas soon. I'm in the planning stage. Looking at the map I'm thinking of jumping on to Florida Rt 98 and running the coast south. I'm thinking Rt98 from Pensacola
to Crystal River or so. I thought I saw some campground suggestions here in the past but I can't find them. I'm checking out RV life Campground Reviews, but I'm wondering what campgrounds you folks have used and enjoyed.
Also any side trips that are interesting. We like ocean views. 26ft Class C no tow.

Camp at Newport; the road down to the St. Marks light is just across 98 and Wakulla Springs is just up the road. Be sure to do the boat tour.

I agree, avoid Hwy 98 at least until you are east of Panama City. If you can get a reservation at Ft Pickens, just below Pensacola, that would be worth a detour from I10. Wakulla Springs is another unique and interesting park. No camping but the lodge is very cool. Wakulla Springs

Thanks for the ideas. I use RV-LIFE campground reviews, Google, RVParky and Campedium. I'm going to try the planner that Pianotuna suggested too. I was looking for members personal favorites, however after looking at the nightly site fees, I might camp inland and day trip the coast. The Rock Crusher Canyon looks just right. You folks are great. As always Thanks.

Don't get on it until east of Port St. Joe, lots of traffic. Then you'll have mostly water view until Panacea. Go to the St. Marks lighthouse at St. Marks NWR for a sightsee/picnic, no camping. From there you'll see nothing but pine trees until you get to Crystal River. Just past Homosassa follow 98 eastward and get on the Suncoast Parkway (toll) down to Tampa and miss lots and lots of traffic.

Rock Crusher Canyon in Crystal River is where we've stayed before and really enjoyed it. Big sites and plenty of room to maneuver on the roads. RVPARKY show a bunch of parks to choose from along the route.

OK once you get past the Eglin AFB area, to down around Panama Beach. West of there heavy traffic makes for slow going. Past there it is a good road indeed once past Perry the road is almost empty 4 lane highway until you get south of Crystal River when the traffic starts building up again.
