Am I crazy or is it possible to get a place in Florida in late Jan? If so any recommendation want to stay inland and from Orlando south.

Reflections on Silver Lake in Avon Park - they have several open sites right now. We have been staying here since 11/01 and visited the in - laws for years before that. Nice 55 and older park, many activities, pools, dances, etc. On Highway 27 South. They have a website also. About 2-1/2 hours to either coast. About 1 hour south of I-4 and 27.

South of I-4 along US27 you will find some possibilities. 2 years ago we didn't leave Michigan until February 1st, without reservations other than one place down in the Keys and we stayed at 8 different campgrounds from north to south. Depending upon any amenities you might be looking for, there will be parks for you.

Sebring is a nice area. We stayed at a place called Whispering Pines there for a couple of days. They had plenty of sites available for a very reasonable price. Sites were a little tight, but the residents were nice as were the managers. Below is a clicky for Sebring at RV Park Reviews.com. This will list the park I've noted above as well as others in that area with camper ratings and comments.

Another park we stayed at for a few days was in Winter Haven, Cypress Campground & RV Park. We wanted to stay in that area to attend a Detroit Tiger spring game in Lakeland. See the clicky for the Winter Haven area.

Both these places had pools, activities, and were fairly priced. As I said, we stayed only a few days in each location because we were trying to visit several parks for a few days each to see the area as well as the parks themselves. Not sure what they are like for the long term.

You might want to try around Brooksville, FL. on US 98. 10 miles west of I-75 and 10 miles east of US 19. It's due west of Orlando. My parents weren't enjoying camping in the keys in their RV one year and found Brooksville on the way to the gulf coast. Streets and Trips shows 5 CGs within 10 miles of Brooksville. I don't remember which one they used.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

Try county parks. They aren't always filled especially during the week. Some do not allow pets which keeps many people away. We really like Moss Park which is a bit southeast of Orlando. Check them out on this map - http://www.ultimatecampgrounds.com/uc/index.php/florida-2

How long are you hoping to stay for? Would you mind doing the "camp site shuffle"? There are often 2 to 4 night "holes" at various campgrounds that can be combined for longer stays, albeit some moving will be required.

It's harder to find something long term than short term. I would look for something in the Arcadia are or if interested in north Orlando, PM me.

It will be a challenge but start your looking. South of Tampa/Orlando is where everyone wants to be because of the weather. The way I look at it, is 50 is still better than 10 below. The northern part of the state is easier to get into.
