I was there two years ago right on an end spot near the ocean. It wasn't bad but I would disagree that the sites are huge. We were there on spring break and it seemed like a lot of their activities were not open yet.

We stayed there about 5 years ago. Near the ocean. Not much shade and sites were dirt sites. They had a canopy for most sites. There are sites that had shade but they were closer to the amenities (stores, pools and laundry area) and the area was real busy. It's a huge campground with 400 plus sites. Being right near the ocean was priceless.
Life's an adventure underwater and on land.

We stay at PL every year. We like it a lot. We have stayed at ALL the Myrtle beach private campgrounds. All have their pros, and cons. We found that PL had less cons than the others. The beach area sites are simply HUGE. The cg itself is a lot quieter than most of the others with tighter security. As mentioned quiet time is strictly enforced. the Golf cart parade stops at 11 period.

And you CAN reserve a certain site IF you pay for it in advance. I really like the huge sites, and being so close to the beach.
We rate the CGs in this order. Pirateland because of the huge sites, and enforced quiet time. Next, Myrtle Beach travel Park, because of location. Then Lakewood, large beach sites but no AC in bath house, Then Ocean lakes because of the tiny beach area sites, crowd, and lack of security, and no quiet time enforcement. Then Apache, because it is so dated, and small sites, but has the widest beach of any private CGs.

We don't stay at the State Park, because the sites are so far from the beach, and are all in the trees. Trees block the breeze, and make it way hotter.

BTW. You need to call early for a site at any of the MB CGs. It may already be too late for this summer.

Haven't stayed there but not because of problems. It is a great place, some say better than Ocean Lakes which is my second favorite. Can't go wrong with either.

Edit: OL second favorite because my favorite is down the road at Huntington Beach SP which is quieter, away from all the bussel and has lots more wildlife.

We're at Huntington State Park right now. This place is hard to get into, book well in advance. Great campground and facility, everybody is friendly. We're staying a couple nights at Lakewood as well, just to try it out. I'm not really into that kind of campground but I thought the kids would like it.

Thanks for the replies.
We have been here since Thursday of last week. We got site 95 not far from the beach at all. The site is not graded and we ended up in a small pond lol. Rained most all of Sunday so the site was pretty soaked. It could use some maintenance but all and all not too bad. Seems like the cart thing is pretty well known. Yes they are flying all day but quite at night. We have not had a chance to try out any other sites nearby. I plan on making a trip down to the campground down in Huntington and see. That will probably be our next place we stay when we come back.

We stayed there a couple of years ago. We had a site at the end (beach front site), though not actually on the beach! We loved it! Nice place. Well run and clean. Sites were very wide. Yes they have golf carts (parade from about 8-11), but they stop that promptly at 11pm! By 11:02 there is not one golf cart in sight. Very quiet after that.

We highly recommend them. We will be going back again soon!

LOL... Only about 1/2 of the forum members. Expect a debate about Pirateland vs. the other campgrounds in MB.
