Jekyll Island Ga

Hi everyone,
Has anyone stayed at the campground on Jekyll Island? We are thinking about staying there for about 3 days. Is there lots of trees? Can we get satellite reception?
Really just want easy beach access.
Thanks,
Kim & Ed

thanks for sharing the pics. Would you recommend staying at the State Park with really close sites?
I wouldn't stay there. Go to Crooked River State park instead. You can visit Cumberland Island which has wild horses - just down the road.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We've decided to head for Savannah.

Just a quick word to say that we enjoyed staying at Skidaway Island State Park near Savannah. We also took a river cruise which was a highlight at Savannah. That night the program was a Gospel Choir.

That is true, however a lot of those photos aren't of Jekyll Island Campground or even Jekyll Island.

Was at CG two weeks ago. Heavy tree cover but over 70 cable channels (lots of rain that week). Whole island is very quiet, few shops, lots of history. Driftwood Bistro was our favorite meal. Take a day at nearby St Simon Island.

It depends on which beach you want to get to and how far you are willing to walk. Directly across the street from the campground is the Clam Creek Picnic Area with a fishing Pier and small beach. This is about a 1.5 mile walk. This beach however is not the ocean, it's St. Simons Island Sound, where the Brunswick River meets the Atlantic. Driftwood Beach, at one time rated one of America's best is on the Atlantic and about a mile or so from Clam Creek.

There is public beach access to the Atlantic within a few miles of the campground that you can walk, bike or drive to.

Most likely you won't get satellite reception if you are in the interior of the campground. The campground is heavily covered with trees. On the outside, street side, if you have long enough coax, you can place the satellite outside the trees.

Have you looked at staying off the island and driving there for the day? Coastal GA RV Resort is about 20 minutes away from Jekyll Island, about a mile off I-95. The park is only a few years old and the trees haven't grown tall enough to be a problem yet. Reception will not be a problem. The bugs on Jekyll are really bad this time of year, especially at the campground. They won't be nearly as bad off the island.
