Mayberry Days, Mt. Airy, NC

Now that we're out of racing, we're just regular RVing folks who want to go on fun trips. Lots of catching up to do.

One of the things we've always wanted to check out was Mayberry Days in Mt. Airy. My two sons and I could probably dominate the Andy Griffith Show trivia contest. A game we like to play on trips is seeing if we can stump the others with Andy Griffith Show questions.

Who all has been? I know there are other things going on besides just a trivia contest. Is it worth the trip?

Yes, a full day is enough....Also forgot to mention that at Mayberry Campground is the home of the famous Siamese twins, Eng and Chang Bunker.

Just have to add this to our venue on our way to Fairy Stone SP, VA.
Thanks for the heads up. Always looking for places like this to add to our trips. Thanks a bunch.

In that case. You would also so enjoy Black Mountain NC. Just off I-40 Amazingly enough at the top of Black Mountain. Neat town with lots of stuff to see.

And there is also Saluda, Just off I-26 at the top of (another amazing fact), Saluda Grade. Exit 54 I think. A couple of Old time Grocery store, one with a Diner attached, and one with a Hardware store. Lots of cool shops, and ICE CREAM. Also, a VERY nice Campground just out of town. "Orchard Lake"

A good place to stay while visiting Black Mountain is Curtis Creek Campground. No utilities (pit toilet), but only $5/night.

Haven't been during the Mayberry Days, but have been otherwise. Mayberry campground is a nice campground to stay at and an easy drive into downtown. If you like riding bikes, there is a nice greenway along the Arrarat river in downtown. Since we are only an hour away, we will probably end up back there this summer. There's also a neat little pond if you have kayaks or a canoe, that's up above mayberry. It's called Lovill's Lake and is just across the Virginia state line.

Here's a video of the Arrarat River Greenway.

And a video of Lovill's Lake.

A great town. Lots of fun checking out the sites. Only a few things however are related to Andy Griffith. Still worth a visit though!

Agree. A nice place to visit anytime. Do go to the end of main and visit the Easter Brothers music shop.
