After 3 years of learning to use my trailer i've finally purchased a generator and 2-6v AGM batteries so I can try a hand at going someplace without hookups. I'm going to start out at PA state parks that don't have hookups, but was wondering if others have some other good places that are around. I'm in Central PA so most everything is accessible.

Ricketts Glen SP in PA keeps one of their loops open all winter. Great hikes along 22 waterfalls.

Also in Allegheny NF there are pull-off spots on the forest roads where I've seen people camp.

Thanks for the info so far! It's broadening my scope and where to look! I'm also researching the requirements for reservation or not. Different governmental areas have different requirements!

X2 to all that. Plus there are always one or two ANF campgrounds open into December for hunters. I used to go to Tracy Ridge during the first couple weeks in November and usually had the place to myself.

PS: do not think the parks will be empty on weekends the camping season does not end at Labor Day, hunters and "leaf peakers" are in the campgrounds. Some of PA State Parks stay open until after deer season in December.

True, planning on next weekend, to try it out for my first time. Also, there are some that are open year-round as well. One by us is Rickets Glen.

Made dash to east coast to pick up Mom in law. Was going to "camp" all the way back to west coast. Did not work out but still have this file. Numbers at top left might come in handy. I understand there is a big difference between "State Park" and "State Forest" in PA.
