Quartzsite - receiving packages.

If I hadn't seen this with my own eyes I would not have believed it.

I've been receiving many UPS package deliveries via Quiet Times store in Quartzsite. Everything was going fine until one of the packages ended up in the US postal system (which I have no control of). The USPS website said my package was delivered but, I saw a big orange message "Package returned to sender because of insufficient address." WHATTT???

Thinking, no, that's just crazy, I stopped in at the post office to check. Sure enough, the lady said "We send them back the same day." Her tone of voice indicated this happens all the time. So...what was the problem? A missing box number. Quiet Times also has a Box number in addition to the street address, which I now find out you must use for this very problem. And if you put "PO box" on it, UPS won't carry it, and apparently if you leave off the box number, the post office will return it.. (to Vermont). which is exactly what happened.

Just a couple thoughts:

a) If the address is insufficient, why doesn't the USPS know that when the package first enters the system?
b) What is it going to cost them to "teach me a lesson"?
c) Quiet Times has been here for years. The PO employees don't know their box number by now? This is not a big city.
d) Rules are rules, but are the counter employees not allowed to use any common sense whatsover?

I would have responded politely if she had just said "Here's your package, but please remember to use the box number next time, ok?"

It's no surprise the USPS is hemorrhaging money. I hope they go out of business.

Have you used the UPS customer center there, for packages?

Another update: The post office in Vermont had to place a call to the post office in Quartzsite to get the address that Q will accept. Unbelievable.

All this because the clerks at Q are too stubborn to simply look up a box number of a company that's been in town for 20 years.

I still get mail for my deceased father and bride. She died 7 years ago, he 3 years ago.

Just shows you that when a letter gets dropped in a box it is delivered as promised! NOT a PO problem, someone mail something to them and PO delivered it! Good Job on there part!

no...you don't get my point. I've moved twice...told PO to ONLY forward mail for me and my husband.....and I have used my new name. The old name wasn't on the order. They forwarded mail addressed to the old name. Also they say they forward for one year at most....nope 7 years later I still got junk mail for my former name and it was FORWARDED.

I don't consider it so. Nobody by those names lives there, and the PO knows that.

If the Post Office wanted to be profitable now, every piece of mail they deliver would have a 1st class stamp on it. Maybe even at less than the nearly 50 cents now.

This is really turning crazy now.

I just got an email from the company in Vermont saying that they tried to re-ship the package using the corrected address, and the USPS wouldn't take it because it's not a valid address.

Go figure.

Returning to the Quartzite / Borrego Springs problem, do neither of those towns have a private option, a small business that rents mailboxes, accepts packages, etc.?

Private co's vary widely, of vourse. But the one near my S&B is incredibly nice and accommodating. They didn't ask for anything except maybe photo ID, and, with my permission, they will even open my mail and tell me if it's anything good :).

I tried one in another town and the owner said he did not serve people of my race, so, you know, things vary.

For Q, I seem to recall someone on rv.net saying that the hardware store accepts packages for people?

If the po wanted to make money a letter should be $5 right now.

When the entire country is wired or served by some form of internet, that's how a "letter" will arrive. I see no future for carting paper around the country.

It is hemorrhaging money because some idiots in Washington told them to set assign retirement money like no other private or public group has every had to do in the history of the country.

It is a direct attach on it with political backing from one side of the isle.

Chris
That's right. A deliberate attempt to destroy the post office by the competition, implemented by bribes (oops, I should of used the more politically correct "campaign contributions") And willing elected extremists, who live the delusion that most government functions should be eliminated. Wait to see how wonderful it will be when the USPS is gone, free doorstep delivery is over, and the competition wants $5 to get a letter to you, since you live in a rural area.

I've used Ehrenberg before.. not too bad. Quiet Times will charge $5 if they have to go stand in line at the PO for your package.

The one thing that really stands out in all this is the fact that the parcel was carried across the US, then physically delivered to this address before being declared "insufficient address." There's no excuse for not knowing this the moment it hit the system.
