Recommendations for 1) Eureka Springs & 2) Memphis

Hello All. In mid-September, we're taking a trip in our 26' Class C pulling a 12' covered cargo trailer with our scooters. We're middle aged and will have no children and no pets with us.

Looking for recommendations for the Eureka Springs AR area and then for the Memphis TN area. No real special needs other than with the trailer, a pull through site is easier, a nice pool is always welcome and of course, cleanliness all around in the restrooms etc.

Not interested in parks that are geared to families with lots of those kind of attractions and activities i.e. Yogi Bear's Jellystone etc, type parks.

What suggestions do you have for us? Thanks in advance, ~ Bugjr ~

We just returned and here's our report. We stayed at the Wanderlust RV Park in Eureka Springs which is really close to town (not walking distance although there is a trolley stop). The managers, Tim & Kim non-owners) were polite, friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The park is clean and has some great spots overlooking the Ozark valleys. The pool was a nice feature for us. No open fires though.

The comfort station facilities are a little older but very clean and functional. The hooks-ups were fine. We highly recommend this park.

Graceland RV Park in Memphis was also clean. Less scenery (it's an urban park with tight security - not obtrusive). It sits right beside Graceland which was super convenient. Bus & trolly tours shuttle you into the city right from the campground. Highly suggest this is better than driving into the city and fighting to find parking.

Comfort stations were newer but could be better maintained (not dirty but looked well used all of the time and minor repairs were needed to things). Had a pool which looked fairly clean but "tired' ... we didn't use it. Front gate staff efficient, cordial but busy.

In Steelville MO, we stayed at the Huzzah Valley Resort. Very large rural setting (guessing about 300 acres), with large sites. Good hookup facilities. Comfort station was rustic & old ... it was quiet there but the cleanliness of the pay showers were just fair. Otherwise it is a beautiful spot in the off season ... they indicated that up to 1500 students can come to party during the summer in the segregated "zoo area" which is quite a distance from the family camping area where we were. Friendly staff. Would stay there again but would look around to see what else might be in the area.

That's about it. Thanks for all of your input prior to out trip. They have great motorcycling roads in NW Arkansas & MO. That was the real purpose of our trip and we were not disappointed.

Thanks dverstral. The only other Memphis area RV Park that we're considering is the Graceland RV Park and although closer to some of the attractions, Tom Sawyer's RV Park is sufficiently unique that we're leaning towards it ... especially if riding safely to and from the city is a non-issue. ~ bugjr ~

Thanks for this. However, we are attending a maxi-scooter get-together with about 30 other riders so we have no choice as to the dates. I guess we're one of those "events". lol

Be sure to check Eureka Springs to be verify there will be no events going on at the time you want to be there. Some of the events bring in a huge amount of traffic.

No problems taking scooters into Memphis from West Memphis. Follow the directions on their website and you will not have a problem.

We've been warned by friends from St. Louis MO about avoiding West Memphis if possible. They also recommended Beale St., Mud Island and Graceland as must see sights for us.

We stayed at Tom Sawyer in Memphis. It was fun to watch the barges go up the river. Be sure to go to Mud Island, it was neat to see. We parked by the tourist center and caught the trolley downtown to Beal Street. Had dinner and listened to all the music. Fun night.

tom sawyer campground, is so unique that it is worth staying at. Sitting on the Mississippi watching the barges and seeing the lights of Memphis is very nice. You will have no problem with your unit and trailer. enjoy your trip.

Oh stop at the mill just outside of Eureka springs!

In Eureka Springs we stayed at the Kettle campground. No complaints the staff was helpful and friendly. The few nights we were there we'd walk up the swings that looks at the road.. interesting people in that area.

The trolley has a stop at the entrance. Can't remember the pricing but a excellent alternative to driving around that city, which can be a mess! And you won't have to pay for parking. We bought the tickets from the staff at the campground.

there are lots of COE campgrounds on the lake in that area. thats where we stayed. big sites, nice views.

Eureka Springs is nice. Allow yourself a little extra travel time in that neck of the woods, though, because all of the roads are curvy and slow going.
