It's posted on Orlando Craigslist:
Rare opportunity to get sites in Bahia Honda State Park on short notice!
2 campsites in high-demand, water-front state park in the Florida Keys. (Big Pine Key area)
Sites were reserved 11 months in advance, however, family plans changed, so we do not have use for these sites this year. Nice, quiet, family park.

These two sites have electric and water, and serve for tents, campers or RV rigs up to 30' or 36'. 50 amp electrical service and water at both sites, shared bath houses.
Sites are reserved for the following dates:
Site #6: March 3-14, 2014, 11 nights and fits RVs up to 36' in length
Site #26: March 4-14, 2014, 10 nights and fits RVs up to 30' in length (this is a shaded site next to water-front sites)
Pet-friendly park

Info about park: http://www.floridastateparks.org/bahiahonda/

We will sell each site for $900
This is less than a commercial RV park nearby, and the water/beach experience is incomparably superior at Bahia Honda. (We know from experience!)

Please refer to State Park website for park questions.
Call Tom to purchase (four-zero-seven, 421-7902). Serious inquiries only.

St Lucie is difficult to book because it has so few w/e sites. Just 8 or 9? We've gotten lucky 2 winters in a row getting reservations someone else cancelled. Never one of the three waterfront sites, of course.

Is Ms Edna there running things again this year? She didnt put up with any funny business last year. Called us and told us that washing the bug juice off our camper was NOT ALLOWED!!! We were just using dry wash. We mighta gotten arrested if we had been using a hose or a bucket of water.

She is/was a force to be reckoned with. Gotta love her for keeping things shipshape.

Cool. Was it Franklin in FL by chance? There were previously people who stayed there all winter long. Some days it looked like a game of musical chairs with TT's and 5Ws exchanging sites with one another.

Nope .... Was St. Lucie South. Almost as hard to get into as the Keys SP's

I have been checked for picture ID at a few SP's, but certainly not many. If the Rangers would do that, it would help somewhat. The last COE campground we were in wanted ID, Sr. Discount, and tag numbers for TT and TV.

.

Let them check in under the assumed name . Later have the Ranger/Manager ask them for picture ID and number for paper work . When It is determined that they checked in using a false name - they have committed fraud and should be told to vacate immediately with no refund .

FYI...
Showed the sites to BH staff....answer...yes they are aware...there is nothing they can do to stop it...it goes on in the other parks as well...re:$900?.....many people will and have paid it...they simply book under the name of the person who paid....re the rental:again booked under the person staying in the camper...re RA: nothing we can do and RA does not care...
The above is the dialogue between myself and BH staff two days ago....so good luck to all us 'ordinary folks':D

I believe all state parks, no matter what state, are taxpayer supported.

What would prevent someone from renting from the scalper and then hooking up and checking out a few days early? :h

I guess that would never happen, it wouldn't be honest. :S

I am NOT a Reserve America "cheerleader."

I fail to see how they could have responsibility in this matter. They have no way of knowing, predicting or controlling the end use of the reservation.

They are just an agency that blocks out sites for a certain time, and collects payments.

The best defense is members here exposing, and reporting this type of abuse to the proper authorities.

I think there is always a 2 week stay limit at any St.Pk. $900 for 2 weeks ???
We stayed at Bahia Honda 2 years ago for $24 per nite.

Just for the record:

We reserved a 2-week stay at Bahia Honda for Feb 2010 (booked in March 2009) and the nightly rate was $31.50, including taxes, for an RV site. They raised the rates for the next year to $43.00 per night, including taxes. That rate has been in effect for Bahia Honda, Curry Hammock and Long Key since then.

We have never been asked to provide an ID when checking into a Florida SP with a reservation.

ReserveAmerica just sort of shrugged it off and said to click the "prohibited" box on C/L and if enough people do that then the ad will be removed. Not a good solution (IMHO), but then again RA got paid so they don't care what the site's used for.

The last state park that I used in Florida was Top Sail. I had to show my drivers license when checking in.
