First time to RGV. Currently sitting in Harlingen. Plan is to check out parks for winter long stay next year.
We are looking to find a park with good facilities/sites, friendly folks and lots of in park activities.
Wife is interested in sewing, quilting and crafts. I am in to fishing, metal detecting and history.
Which parks should we check out??

Two parks with top notch facilities and large sites with lots of activities are Llano Grande In Mercedes and Victoria Palms in Donna. Both parks have new and old sections. The new sections are the ones you want.

There are several really nice parks on Bentsen Palm Drive at Palmview. Tons of activities and many activities in adjoining parks open to other nearby parks. You will find friendly neighbors at most parks in Texas. Be sure to look at parks where the lots are all privately owned. It will be a bit more effort to find an available lot to rent as you have to contact individual lot owners but park offices will usually have a list of lots with owners phone numbers available. These parks usually have much larger lots, more amenities and are better maintained. If you want deluxe check out Retama Village. Every lot includes a adjoining coach house. Also Bentsen Palm Village Resort is very nice and is next to the world Birding Center and attached to paved biking trails. Also on Bentsen Palm Drive for less money with both indoor and outdoor pools, pickleball and nonstop activities is Bentsen Grove. Americana is a lower cost park that is more heavily wooded. Also nearby is a small well kept park named Val's Country Coral. Mission West has good size lots as does 7 Oaks Park. The most economical Park nearby is Golden Grove, Very nice but no pool and very few amenities but remember a lot of activities in nearby parks are open to the public. Also Lamplighter Park. After visiting nearly 100 parks we settled at Green Gate Grove for the past 10 years. Allow a day or two to check out the Parks on and near Bentsen Palm Drive at Palmview in the western Valley. Another very nice park that comes to mind is Victoria Palms at Donna.

I stayed in Harlingen last year at a place called Eastgate. 6 month rate was $785 for a first time visitor. The people were nice but could barely fit the 5th wheel on the site.
This year I moved over to Weslaco at a place called Ranchero Village rate is right at $500 per month but the sites are wide and long with free cable and high speed internet included. Lots of activities here, friendly people.

I've been to all 50 States but my RV hasn't.

With over 400 parks in the Valley you have many choices. For fishing you may want to look at Long Island Village at Port Isabel or something near South Padre island. There is a nice park on the bay near Riviera. Or something on the water in Brownsville. Chimney Park near Mission is on the Rio Grande. Visit as many parks as you can to find what you like. So many choices. Good luck and welcome to Texas.
