Huntington Beach State Park SC area questions

Wife and i are staying at Huntington Beach State Park Sc. First time there and checking in this afternoon. Any recommendations on things to do in the area and up around Murrells Inlet. Wife wants to hit the Marsh Walk area in Murrells Inlet but other than that we are just hanging out for 4 days. Not interested in Myrtle Beach area been there done that. Restaurant recommendations in the area would be great also.

we have stayed at MB state park in the past and like it very much also. amazing that both parks are so close to heavy commercial development yet once you are in the parks have the feel of being way off the beaten path.

thanks for all the input. the park lived up to its reputation. we had 3 great days. our site was in the newer south campground with 50amp full hookups. couple minutes walk to the beach. spent most of one day in georgetown on the waterfront. brookgreen does have groupon discount available.

Go early in your stay for Brookgreen as the admission is valid for 7 days. Found out when we bought went the last day of our stay. 😞

Favorite restaurant in Murrells Inlet is the Inlet Crab Hourse. Avoid the BBQ place unless you like viniger base.

We live down near Charleston and go up there in the winter time for a weekend or two because the rates are cheaper and traffic isn't as bad. Mainly just chill and take 1,000s of pics from the causeway of the birds.

New one just came out.

Tonight is the Super Bowl, a big fundraiser for Georgetown county's Habitat for Humanity. About 40 restaurants will be serving soup in hand decorated bowls. Tons of fun. It is not far in Pawleys Island.

Not far south on 17 is Georgetown. Worth an afternoon.

Don't worry about restaurants in Murrells Inlet, we don't really have an off season.

Brookgreen has a number of different programs, check Groupon, they're running one of their specials. Right in the park is Atalaya, The Huntington's summer home. There are frequent guided tours.

The park rangers have many different programs year round. If you go south to Litchfield, swing by Kudzu bakery, you will be glad you did.

I live 30 miles N of MB. It is not for me either.

Bit of a drive but a day trip to historic Charleston SC?

Brookgreen Gardens is primary reason to visit. It was constructed by the Huntingtons as a sculpture/art garden for the wife,

There is also a historical section recently added to interpret the slave life of the five rice plantations acquired by the Huntingtons to create Brookgreen. There was a very interesting boat trip to see how the rice plantations operated. Slave housing has also been replicated.

Entry ticket is for multiple days so you can do the art section one day and historical areas the next. be careful around the realistic animal sculptures. My wife walked up to investigate a "carved" alligator and then realized it was a real one, just in time!!

Plenty to do in the area and right next to Myrtle Beach. Be sure and have breakfast at the Applewood House of Pancakes!

They have a lot of things to do at the Nature Lodge. They have programs in the lodge plus some walks on the Beach. Next to the campground is Atalya which was the home of the Huntingtons. It is very interesting and you can walk there. In Murrel's Inlet, visit Drunken Jacks. It's a very nice restaurant that serves good food and a view of the bay.
