Southern California RV park on the beach

In May after spending 4 days at Disneyland I want to spend 2 or 3 days at the beach before we head north up the coast. I want a nice but not too expensive rev park on or very close to the beach. I have a 38' fifth wheel and there will be 5 of us so I need room for it and the slides. Any recommendations are appreciated.

I believe Jalama is a Santa Barbara county beach.

From Disneyland there are a couple parks on or near the beach south of there. Doheny State Beach is in Dana Point 33 miles south on the 5 and is at beach level but it is dry with no hook ups and very cramped. Crystal Cove State Park RV spaces are 25 miles south and just north of Laguna Beach. They are located behind an elementary school and the entrance is not well signed. The sites are water/power only with a dump station available. The sites are on a terraced hillside overlooking the Pacific but on the inland side of Coast Highway and a long walk from the beach. All RV sites are back in but will fit your rig with room for the truck to the side. San Clemente State Beach is 38 miles south on the 5 and is located on a bluff above the beach with walking access. There are around 50 paved pull through full hook ups large enough for your rig with slides out. Again the only problem is reservations. I have been there a number of times when the reservation site shows no more spaces available and when arrive at my spot the place is only half full during the week. I live close enough that I can run down and ask at the gate and can usually find a spot for a couple of days. You may want to call the gate at 949 492-3156 and ask. One web site shows a 30 ft max for trailer and motorhome but on the reservation site they are listed at 32-42 feet. I am 53 feet with the car in back and still have plenty of room. Enjoy the trip.

Reserve America website

Some people here have reported problems with Reserve America. Sometimes you can go to the individual SB website for reservations.

We have stayed at several; last one was El Capitan just before the oil spill. Our favorite is Doheney. DW wants to be at water's edge but those slots have no hookups. The hookup sites are only few feet further away.

There are only 10 kinds of people on this planet: those that can read binary, and those who cannot.

Add Jalama State Beach to your list - great list by the way. Looks like my google star'd map.

I have been trying to stay at Crystal Cove State Park. It looks ideal for your situation (close to Disneyland with hookups). The trouble is getting reservations; weekdays might be easier. Give it a try.

Jalama Beach - water and electric - dump site - doesn't get much better.

Emma Wood - no hookups, but right on the beach

Dockweiler is adjacent to a sewage treatment plant and in the take off zone of Los Angeles airport. You do get used to the noise and the occasional smell.

Further up the coast are several state parks without hookups.

In the Pismo Beach area there are several RV Parks near the beach with access to the beach.

Unfortunately, there aren't many beach spots with hook ups to the north. There are some south of the Disneyland area.

Thank you, that is what I was looking for. I am not opposed to going south, before heading north up the coast if there is a good spot not too far south. If Pismo is a nice beach, I'm open to camping up there also. My In-laws are going to Disney with us and then they want to visit some relatives in San Luis Obispo, maybe I can find a place around there for a few days if there are nice beaches around there.

Los Angeles area is Not RV friendly. As noted, Dockweiler is not in the best location, and some people feel less than safe in the community. I won't camp there. Heading South your first campground is around Huntington Beach, heading North Pismo for hookups. There are a few campgrounds "close to the beach", Malabu is on the hills on the wrong side of the freeway.

Sorry, yes I need hookups, unless I only stay a real short time.
