We visited it last winter while in the area. Looked to be a nice park with miles of beach that is undeveloped being a state park. Only draw back for us was no dogs allowed on State park beach. The camping area allows them on a leash. The developed park of St. George Island beach allows dogs though. We loved the island and hope to go back soon.

Wow didn't want to start a fight of any kind , but to all thank you for all the input. A friend of ours said nice park hay as far as bugs hey we live in Florida thank you all again

After 2 trips to St George I would never go back. The mosquito population is out of control and no attempt is made to control it. It was impossible to be outdoors without being sucked dry. As far as Zika virus in Florida there are many confirmed cases and it is growing daily. You obviously are not so in touch with what's going on. They did have some good shelling

This post is so funny. The OP asked about a good campsite at a FL state park. He gets responses about fear of the Zika virus (no evidence of this is FL), and the park being "overran" with rattle snakes, then a complaint about the park service not caring about campers. I just consulted with my Florida ranger friends and they were unaware of the snake situation at St. George but remind us that dogs should not be left unattended in campgrounds As for the BEST site. There are all the best at St. George. lizzie

The FSP service refuses to do anything to control dangerous pests. They are now infested with Eco nerds who have no common sense strategy for protecting those the parks are funded by and attempting to enjoy them.

We have been there lots of times over the last 20 years. We always loved it in the past until this last summer. We were overran with big fat Diamondback Rattlesnakes. One was captured heading across the road toward my campsite. The campground host said that he thought it was headed for my dog (a small Pomeranian) to eat. He also told us that the Rangers get upset if they are killed, or bothered. Then I got a new neighbor and he killed one right after he arrived. He said that it was after his dog. The campground host was furious. I do not believe that I will ever get my wife to go back there. We really enjoyed going there in the past, but no more.
