St Louis West/Historic Route 66 KOA Campground

Has anyone been to this campground? We are thinking of staying here to visit st louis, and go to a ball game. or are there better options?

Yes, we stayed there a couple of years ago. The drive to downtown was very easy and less than 25 minutes, no big deal. The campground was nice and we felt safe there.

I traveled with my 3 kids and we had no interest in staying in the downtown area or in a casino parking lot which had been suggested on here.

East St. Louis is on the Ill. side. The park may be ok and have security I would not advise any site seeing etc. in East St. Louis.

so your saying casino shuttle will drop us off and pick us up? that would ne great

Personally I would not take the Metro Link. If you are planning on staying at the Casino Queen RV park the shuttle is a great way to get there and back. Check out their web site, click on "visiting" and "Shuttle". First transport is 90 minutes before and last pick up is 1 hour after the game, every 15 minutes. They drop you off right in front of the stadium. It is a great safe way to go.
I don't know about how safe it is to stay at the Casino Queen RV park. They do have security cruising around the casino parking lot. We try to get a parking spot near the hotel building as that is where the shuttle pick up is located.

I have read on other froums about safety in st Louis, how safe is it to stay at casino queen and take metro link to and from the ball game?

Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park in Wildwood, MO is a nice state park as are all Missouri state parks. It is a good base to explore St. Louis (40 minute drive), St. Charles, MO and Route 94 wine trail. Also not far from Six Flags Amusement Park. When we go to a Cardinal's game we park at the Casino Queen and take the free shuttle, we tip the driver. In my opinion it is the safest way to go to and from the game.

If you are looking for the metrolink system around St. Louis area you would be better served to stay at Casino Queen RV Park vs. 370 Lakeside RV Park. 370 Lakeside RV Park is a nice place to stay but you need individual transportation to get into St. Louis. If you stay at Casino Queen RV Park you can catch the metrolink just a short distance from the RV Park and the shuttle service will take you to the metrolink stop then pick you up when you return. Lakeside 370 RV Park is some 30 miles from downtown. Casino Queen RV Park is just across the river on the Illinois side. You can see the Gateway Arch from Casino Queen

We later stayed at 370 Lake Side park and liked it much more as a campground/RV park. Spacious sites and cheaper rates. But, further from the city. Though, my wife and kids did go into City Museum and enjoyed that.

We stayed at the St. Louis West KOA about a year and a half ago. It is a bit of a drive to St. Louis proper, and is pretty much a standard KOA. One thing we encountered was a power issue - our Progressive EMS kept kicking off due to low voltage. The park maintenance acknowledged they have an issue and were able to move us to another site, but if we hadn't had the EMS, we wouldn't have known of the problem (and potential risk to the air conditioner).

I don't think they are open. And will not take reservations until spring (as of last year). The Casino hotel does the reservations. You can see the subway stand from park. So walking is not a problem.
