Stealth Camping or Layovering

This is a related subject to boondocking and dry camping. I'm not sure I've broached the subject here. We have stealth camped for decades and find it works well in cities large and small even with our only medium stealthy rig. Here is a link to probably the best thread on the subject: http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/92447-Tips-for-Stealth-Overnight-Parking-and-Building-a-Stealth-Vehicle?highlight=jefe4x4
The first 16 pages or so stay on point, but there is some digression after that.
In order to make our truck camper more stealthy I'm going to white-out the windows, loose the decals, and use a hook for the steps to lift them up to the large hanger on the rear ladder of the camper. Beyond all that, it's where and when you park that makes the most difference.
The author sets out his ideas on being truly stealthy and how it's not trying to deceive anyone but stay within the laws.
Actually, I see more and more Millennials giving up on buying a stick house and just buying a large white M.B. Van and living in it to conduct their oh-so-portable I.T. gig. Better than their parents' basement.

My Jeep Wrangler has 6 forward gears, 4 axle-ends that are all 4 drive-axles. It's still called a 4x4.

Isn't it Wheels x Drive-axles? So a dually would be 6x4 and an Army 6x6 has 6 wheels and 6 drive-axles.

See?

No, I was wrong. It's the number of axle-ends (left/right) times the number that are driven. So an Army Deuce and a Half with 10 wheels was still a 6x6. So, your dually would still be a 4x4. The number of wheels is irrelevant. (Made me go back to the books, er, uh, Google.) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Phil..I am in a quandry here. Perhaps you can help. Yes, it is called a 4x4 or 4 wheel drive..but there are six tires on the ground. Now..I know what a 6 by is...but mine is not an X Army truck...so..what do we refer to mine as?

You can be on my list, Huck :). But it's not a big mean scary list...

Guess what? YOU JUST MADE THE LIST ๐Ÿ˜‰

How do I get on the list? Although I completely agree with the concept of stealth camping (I have a Sprinter Stealth Conversion). I thought it might just be fun to be on "a list". Are there any benefits in that club? T-shirt, stickers, BOGO ?

Wow, Phil, that is nice mileage on your former van! I get close to 25 on my current small van, but apparently I will be doing well to go over 10 in the larger one I am now building out.

And no, I am not going to have 2 RVs ;). Selling one.

So..no wonder people living in the boondocking world get a hard time from so many on here. Check the thread in General..how many folks have 2 RV's. When you have that dichotomy there is no way to find common ground in that conversation.

Off topic, but FWIW:

Rats ... that's unbelievable and very sad!! It's very difficult to find a replacement EX650, too.

Our EX650 is still going strong whenever I'm industrious enough to get it out of the rear storage bay. Lately I often just fire up the built-in, or use the worst choice of all - idle the main engine awhile to top up the coach batteries. (I also have an EX1000 in almost new condition that I use around our property to power electric tools.)

Your DIY van RV reminds me of our first RV before kids, which was a Dodge van we bought new and installed windows, cabinets, a combination couch/pull-out bed, an auxiliary fuel tank, a porta-potty, and an early design inverter in ... all this way back in the 70's. That good old B250 Dodge van with it's 318 V8 got 17-18 miles to the gallon on the open road and probably had a 900-1000 mile range from it's two fuel tanks.

I also drove the van for years commuting to/from work. When commuting in the Dodge van I even used to pack along the EX650 "just in case". Once I left the van's lights on and found a dead starting battery in it when coming out from work after dark and tired. I got out the that little Honda and boosted the starting battery enough to fire up the 318 and make it home - we didn't have ERS back then.

I see that the King of Vagabonding is back on the road..Tioga George..although now it's Team Scampy. Can see the posting in General.

I have modeled much of my methods after his. My day and night camps. Befriending people as I meet them. Yep...he changed my way of doing things.

HI Phil :).

I fully support the current programs and think they should be expanded to include younger people who are unable to work due to disabilities, being the sole caregiver for children or elderly or disabled relatives, etc. In fact, I like the idea of Medicare for all.

I like many of your ideas for new social programs, too.

Unfortunately in the current clinate, we will be lucky if we can prevent the party in power in congress from fulfilling their stated goal of eliminating Medicare and Social Security.
