Stone Mountain Campground, Georgia

We are thinking about going to Stone Mountain Georgia this summer and staying at the Stone Mountain Campground. I'm pretty sure I have seen good reviews on this site about it. My question is does anyone have a recommendation for a site number? We want the premium site - electric, water, sewer and cable.

Thanks,

Karen

You'll want to stay in the sections other than the loop around the pool/office. Many of those have little to no shade - not good in the intense GA summer sun. I'll suggest use of a volt meter while you're plugged in though - we experienced potentially serious low voltage during the day. Other than that, we really liked it there.

We stayed at site 331. Next to the lake.

We are going again later this week to see "Snow Mountain".

Be sure to take the Duck boat ride. Lots of fun things to see and do, but this was my favorite.

If you have a large rig, I recommend you pick a site by the pool. ( The purple sites) They are large enough for a 40 + foot motorhome and a toad and are very level. Other sites in the park can be unlevel and tough to get a large rig into. I think we were in 144 or thereabouts. The only downside is there is no shade, if that's a concern.

Bring the bikes and decide on your own. We will be taking ours with us. We will also probably take our kayaks with us as well. May never use them, but would much rather have them and not use them, than not have them and want them.

Yes, hilly from a Florida perspective, trust me. That is what we enjoyed about it. I don't know anything about the trails, definitely hilly getting to campground and around the sites we stayed in.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have another question. Is the place hilly? I'm asking because we like to bring our bicycles. But we just ride our bicycles leisurely. And if the place is hilly I don't think we will have enough endurance to be able to go up the hills.

Campground not that hilly, park, yes hilly, but........

Many, many cyclist use Stone Mtn Park to ride & exercise. The main loop around the base of the Mtn, has one full lane just for walkers, joggers, & cyclists, closed off from cars. You could easily drive over to another a parking lot, on the backside of the Mtn (area with a walk up trail), and pedal some of the park. I also recommend trying the walk up trail, even if you just do part of it, definitely take cable car (if hike up too much) up to top for the views!

PS: My perspective on hilly, may be a lot different than most being a endurance Mtn Bike racer.....either way, there are parts of the park that could be pedaled, IT WILL BE HILLY TO A FLORIDA perspective! Have a great trip!!!

We have stayed in 150 and liked it because out the front of your rig will not be seeing another rig, its right on the end of the loop in the Premium sites!

It is a great park, and good place to base Atlanta adventures out of.

Have a great trip and adventure!
