Tunica, MS

Back in 2008 was the first time we stopped here on our flight south. Was told about it from other snowbirds, and it was true, it was a gathering point for Midwest RV snowbirds heading over to the south east. Prior to Tunica you were out there on your own, after it you were part of a flock.

Seven years later and Tunica seems to be just a shadow of what it once was. No longer a destination point, and has a feel of pending bankruptcy. I know they had a flood back in 2011, but things are once again open.

So is it just the time of year? Is there a better place to stay then Tunica Casino strip for RV snowbirds? Maybe after the flood people stayed away and don't know Tunica is open for business? Or, is RV'ing hay day dwindling down.

Mostly just long enough to recharge oneself before going to warmer climates. You know... gamble some, eat well, relax, cocktails, do small RV repairs if needed, restock the cabinets, map out the next stage south after talking to others, etc...

FWIW, I did meet a couple of Canadian snowbirds that stayed in Hollywood Casino RV park the whole winter (back in 2008.) One in particular was a black jack player (also an old dealer) and would get his whole winter stay comp'ed. He tried to get me involved until I found out he played 6-8 hours a day/seven days a week. WOW, that's like having a real job.

Last time we were here we stayed about five nights and enjoyed our stay. After two nights we pretty much got hitch itch.

I agree with the lack of respectful treatment. Maybe that's the true reason for the decline. I know when we were done being ignored then receiving unhelpful service a few times at Sam's Town, I told the DW that there is no need to come here again.

If you're doing a forum search and find this thread about Tunica, Hollywood Casino/RV park is the better option IMO. Still not like it once was, but hopefully the area will go back to the way it was when they first opened up this area to casinos.

We stayed for a week back in April. Never need to go there again. As mentioned these casinos have no idea as to how to treat a guest. Our stay at the Hollywood in Gulfport was a much different experience.

Are you talking about a overnight stay or possibly a few days? Nobody stays the entire winter. I'm here now and after 6 days I'm ready to flee. Staying at hollywood or sams Town is the only option. Hollywood has wifi, sams does not. You are correct, these casinos are in final stages of closing. In part, because of few clients and lack of any sense of how to treat customers. Traveling south I'd go for the for gulf coast or possibly the two indian casinos in LA.
