Tuolumne Meadows Campground, Yosomite experience?

We are planing our summer trip out west (from Tennessee) to include Yosomite NP. This is for 2017. We are staying inside the park at Upper Pines then Tuolumine Meadows. If we can get reservations. Here is the part I could use some help on. In Tuolmne there are no dumps and no fresh water for filling a RV. Also no showers. There will be six of us camping together so my holding tanks will not make the five nights. Does anyone know the closest dump, fill water and show location. We have searched online but info is sketchy. Any help is appreciated.

Actually getting a reserved spot, especially for five days, should be more of a concern than if you will fit. Get up early before the reservtion window opens, have many devices pre-loaded with options to choose from on the reservation web site and cross your fingers along with thousands of others around the world as the spaces all fill in seconds. Good luck and I hope you are successful! ๐Ÿ™‚

We'll be in upper pines next week.

My preference was Bridalveil CG. Good elevation for cooler temps, and only 15 minutes from Glacier Point, my favorite spot in the park. Bridalveil had a water spigot by the bathroom. I spent 5 nights there. During the weekday, sites were available usually until 2:00-3:00 pm.

I suggest Crane Flats CG. Its much closer to the famous valley but still atop the mountains so it stays cool. Very nice 'Woodsy' atmosphere. It is, or was, 1st come 1st serve. Good roads and sites for big rigs. Centrally located water and real toilets but no showers. About 3 miles down the road is a gas station and store. I seem to remember they had pay showers. We camped there for 10 days in a 34' Class'A' with TOAD.

If there are faucets in the campground and you can get a site fairly close, you can run a hose to fill your water tank. You may need a "water thief" if the faucets are not threaded to screw your hose end on.

Check out this site that shows all the campsites with the number:

http://www.campsitephotos.com/campground/Tuolumne-Meadows

Your 21' travel trailer should have no problem fitting on a site there. Also, the tents are normally placed on a specific tent pad in it's own space. There should be an issue. Have fun!

It is not big rig friendly -- drive slowly on those interior roads, with a spotter for the trees. But if the website says you can fit, you can rely on that info. I think you should have room for your rig and the tent. It is a lot cooler up there than in the valley -- bring sweatshirts and mosquito juice.

Also bring jerry cans for the water. There are faucets in the campground -- just fill your can, tote it back, dump it into the fill hole, repeat. Great exercise at 8000 feet!

The hiking in the high country near TM CG is world class. So are the flowers.

Reserve America has the Tuolumne campsites reservable at 35'. We are hoping to get our 21' TT and a tent on one site. Now I'm not sure we can do it.
Also I can not find a way to contact the NP to get a question answered.

Great comments. We are trying to stay in Tuolumne to get away from the heat. Hoping the higher elevation would be cooler. Plan to be there the last of June.

Yup, a dump station with fresh water is near that CG. IIRC it's not far away... a few hundred yards down the road, perhaps.

I saw a family with a water bladder on the roof of their vehicle; they went to fill up the bladder and drove back to the campsite, and filled their popup's tank by gravity through a hose. It saved them the hassle of folding and unfolding their popup. Pretty nice.

There is a dump station near Tuolumne Meadows, available only in summer. https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/rvcamping.htm

I saw some Class A's at that campground, tucked very tightly between trees. Don't know how they did it.

I've camped there without reservations, usually in last week before the camp closes in September. Beautiful place. A very different Yosemite from what you see in the valley.

As noted tight roads. You can fit in with your rig, but limited availability. This CG is more suited to tents, but we stayed there with our largish (19') pup.

Use the CG toilets rather than those in the trailer. Need a shower? One day we drove down to Yosemite Valley and went to one of the swimming pools. Kind of a interesting experience to swim there anyway, and the pools are $5/person, $4 for kids.
