Fairfax County Campground. It's a county park and has a campground. We were there many years ago as my wife's company headquarters moved to Reston, VA we visited the facilities.

Prices have gone up considerably since then. But it's a really nice park and campground. Also, it has a water park too. We spent an entire day at the water park.

Easy access to the Metro, but you do have to drive to get there. Once on the Metro, you can go anywhere.

Cherry Hill.

Another plus - If you are tired after sightseeing, they have a small grill next to the pool at the building where the briefings are held. Good food and ice cream. (Open seasonally)

Also a very large coin operated laundry facility with many machines.

Another vote for Cherry Hill

While there, check out the daily 4pm travel class at the campground community room, was very informative.

Another vote for Cherry Hill Park! Bus line comes right into the park, and takes you to the Metro. Metro takes you to Capitol Mall, Smithsonian, and all the landmarks.

We did this Fourth-of-July a couple of years ago, and spent the day going through the various Museums and then watched the fireworks from the Mall. Great fireworks display and a valuable learning experience for our grand daughter.

Cherry Hill is imho the best choice. Was there last year and they have a shuttle service or do like I did parked the truck at the train/metro/subway whatever you call it to directly to the museums and all the exciting stuff. The parking at the train on weekends are free.

There is only one for convenience and that is Cherry Hill.

By the way, look at the upper left of this page and you will see a search function. Type in Washington DC campgrounds and you can read forever. This is a common question.
