I'm camping this week and ran into a fellow that has this backup camera system and it is VERY impressive. For $100 it seems like a pretty good deal

I was really lucky, a good friend bought one at a yard sale, never been used and still in the box for $5.00 and gave it to me, works good but to be honest I mostly use the two magnetic, extendable rods with yellow balls on them, I use that to align then with the back up camera I can see that I am under the ball.

I use this very same camera as a front camera since several years (I sit so far back in my motorhome that I cannot see any smaller person who is close to the rig). It is OK. It does not like full sun hitting it, or sun and shade in the same picture view. The camera is getting weaker over time and the contrast is getting pretty flat now.
It is not even close in picture quality with my professional rear view system.

I recently bought the Peak 4.3" model on sale for about $70. Under about 25mph it seemed ok, but anything over that and it cut out more than it worked. This is on the rig combo in my signature, Chevy CCSB with a ~35' oal Jayco. I am glad I mounted it inside the rear window with clips to try it first.

I was/ am looking for a setup to keep an eye on the bike rack/ bikes and to see traffic as well. So the search continues. I have an idea that I hope will work, but plan on it being a project this next winter/spring. Going with a wired system that plugs into a wireless transmitter, mounted up in the propane tank cover. Then mount the receiver at the rear of the truck and run wires from there up front. That way it only needs to transmit maybe 10' or so. To mount the camera I am thinking of modifying the spare mount so the tire sits more "on the bumper" then behind it, and have the camera mounted on the upright post, sitting just above the tire. Modifying the tire mount will allow me to center the tire on the bumper, without interfering with the bikes/ bike rack on the rear.

If you try it, hope it works for you.

Good luck!

I still use PEAK 7" monitor and the wireless camera mounted to my RV ladder on my 5er. I installed this in the first year of the owning the 5er. It has proven to be an OK camera and monitor. IT does break up sometimes. BUT I can judge who I pass and when to get back over. IT is ok for backing up but IT does take some getting use too. I know how far I am from something based on owning it for 5-6 years.
I have had to reorder a new transmitter from PEAK and they were very good to deal with as far replacing the transmitter.
I ran the wiring under the 5er to a point as far it would reach on the factory wire. Then I soldered a new wire to get it to reach the front storage area. Then I ran the wiring that hooks to the transmitter with the factory fittings through the battery vent hole(piece) then I pull the transmitter off anytime we are sitting still or not towing. I have used velcro to secure the transmitter to the outside light that is on the drivers' side of the camper. This gives it a more straight sight line to my monitor/ receiver. This allows the transmitter to only be say 10' or so from the monitor/receiver. viewing is OK. After using it for this summer's trips over 5000 miles to OK and back twice it worked fine. Helped as I drove I-40 mostly the whole way out and back.
FOR under $100.00 it is an OK camera. easy to operate and hookup. IS it the best I am sure it's not but it also doesn't cost over $400-500.

I used a Peak Wireless Camera System (6 pics) for several years until the camera / transmitter finally crapped out. For hitching up it worked well enough but it proved otherwise useless for watching traffic behind me or for backing up into a campsite because the fisheye view made determining distances impossible. Considering the modest cost it not surprisingly could not handle bright and dark areas in the same view so it was often difficult to determine just what I was looking at. Transmission was OK but would break up from time to time because it's such a low power system. The camera was intended to be mounted permanently but to protect it from the elements I instead would only mount it for use and then store it to protect it from the elements. It nonetheless eventually died so I replaced it with a much better Swift Hitch SH02 Wireless Camera System (5 pics) which I continue to use every time I hitch up. :B
