Could be as simple as the others say but if you have a detector that activates a solenoid at the tank then you will need to order a special detector with matching solenoid.

Agreed. If the old one was hard wired, just use a couple of wire nuts on the new one. 10 minute job if you are not handy.

12V gear is easy, no shock hazard and you just connect the two wires. This is the only one with a 5 star rating on Amazon:

All the rest are mostly three stars. These detectors are well known as a battery drain, they will run your batteries flat while in storage.
