Ultrabreeze vs. MaxxAir

I just went to my local Camping World and picked up two black Ultrabreeze vent covers. But I think I have run into a slight snag. Work & Plays have flat metal roofs. Around the base of each vent fan is all that gooey sealant. There is no flat surface around the edges or anywhere to mount the Ultrabeeze into the existing frame of the vent fan.

So, will I need to go back and get the MaxxAir vent covers? The MaxxAir covers bolt into the side of the existing vent fans. The Ultrabreeze does not. Unless I'm missing something, I think I've hit a roadblock here.

Fortunately, our Camping World is about 3 miles from the house. Plus the MaxxAirs appear to be cheaper unless I go with the MaxxAir II.

What say you? If I have to get the MaxxAir, should I go with the MaxxAir or MaxxAir II? Are they worth the little bit extra. Both models get really good reviews.

MaxxAir II is what we used and they work well over our vent fans, simple to clean as they lift up on one side.

Do these allow the lid to be opened all the way? I'm going to be installing Vortex II fans and will not be replacing the lid or housing.

$64 on Ebay. $112 at CW. There is no warm, fuzzy feeling...

No, the lids won't open all the way, maybe 2/3 of the way. No issue with us however. The best IMO is the cover made by Fantastic but they were too pricey for my taste. With those, you can open the lids all the way, or very close to it.

Unfortunately it is a 'sad state of affairs' we have anymore. Seems no one is accountable for ANYTHING, and offer words to help soothe, but the issue(s) seem to always be overlooked and hardly ever resolved. Good luck dealing with CW.

I will definitely install them myself if I can ever get them.

Ordered them last week on Wednesday. They said the truck order was too late so they would be here this Friday at my local Camping World. Well you know where this is going.

Went today to pick them up and for no reason, they weren't on the truck. Computer showed 102 available on the east coast but I guess not in Raleigh.

Retail manager was very apologetic and is supposed to call me tomorrow for more details. We leave next week so I'm curious as to what they'll do.

I would check with another CW and see what their policy is on installing Maxxairs and how they do it. Hard to believe their policy is to "screw them down to roof" which places more liability on them in terms of leaks. Seems like they're doing it the hard way by drilling all those holes. I'd be an un-happy camper if I could not pull the pins and fold over my MaxxAir IIs for cleaning.

I did try and showed my disappointment in their installation....wrote to CW to explain my DISGUST, and all I got was "we can offer you a ONE TIME leak test"...Yeah Right like I am going to do that, because that will make the install RIGHT??!! Seems 'quick and easy' is the way of this world anymore....no sense of accountability/pride in one's work/work ethic. I am DONE with CW for anything other than what is on the shelf.......

Exactly.........when I inquired why...and if they would've told me that is the way they mount them. I would've done it myself. But coach was in for other things so I 'guessed' they knew what they were doing...but found out that they do not. I corresponded with MaxxAir and they have sent me the mounting brackets, no charge (they are very reputable). So now, I am perplexed as to the 'crud' build up under cover and compromising TPO/EPDM. I have even given it a thought of "unscrewing ALL bolts, caulking like heck, and rescrew back into same holes....then mount covers as per MaxxAir specs". Probably over kill........"What to do"????????

I strongly suggest you do it yourself if you can. I purchased 3 MaxxAirs in 2011 from CW and had them install.....my bad,, as they mounted them DIRECTLY to the roof of my C. So now I have 12 extra holes in the roof I need to 'worry' about. When got coach home and noticed the install, I called CW and was told "that's the way we mount them here"-REALLY?! I was offered a one time leak test, which would have really put my mind at ease. Anyway, my biggest concern is-will the EPDM roof be compromised under the cover, due to dust, stuff build up overtime, as I cannot clean other than by spraying water under such, or is this enough. We have been in some HEAVY downpours and thank God no leaks.....

Odd they would mount them that way since they come with all the necessary hardware to make them quickly removable. Somebody didn't read the instructions or didn't know what they were doing.

Good choice on the II's. Simple to install too, about 5 minutes each.

I saw the video. But mine is slathered up there. Maybe its because I have a metal roof instead of rubber. But the sealant around it is huge.

I took the two Ultrabreeze back tonight and ordered two MaxxAir IIs.

As the video shows, all you do is scrap off the sealant over the screws you are going to use, then reseal them after install. Watch the video that Fantastic shows.
